3 Page Three Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time...August 21, 2011 The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered at The Church of the Incarnation on Friday, October 28th at 7pm in our Church. Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin will preside. Many parishioners have not yet registered their child(ren) in grades 1-8 for the Faith Formation Program. Please do so very soon in order for your child to be placed in a community. Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you wish you may call Noranne Wamester at (860) Faith Formation (Religious Education) formally begins in First Grade. First Communion preparation begins in First Grade. The Kindergarten program Little Lambs begins in October and is an optional program. Grade 9 students (as of Sept. 2011) will receive an invitation in Oct. for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our Faith Formation program is in need of a few catechists. It is always wonderful to welcome new faces into this wonderful ministry. There is a second, third and fourth grade opening for communities meeting at Emerson-Williams School. Please call Noranne Wamester at (860) Thank you! Also, our Middle School Faith Formation program will be meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. We are also offering parish family home communities. This means that a team of two catechists would facilitate a class either in Fr. Crawford Hall after school or in a home. The program Real Faith TV is an excellent program for Middle School youth. Lay Ministry Class: Would you like to serve your parish in a more effective way and deepen your own faith life at the same time? 5 Page Five Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time...August 21, 2011 We are so very grateful to the Incarnation Men s Association for their donation of $3, to the parish this year and for the events they sponsor to enhance our parish life and community. The Incarnation Women s Club Executive Board will meet on Thursday, September 1st from 7-9:30pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. On November 27, 2011, a new English translation of the Roman Missal will be used to celebrate Mass throughout the United States. Did the U.S.A. need a new Missal? It all began in 2002 when a new Roman Missal, 3rd edition, was published in Latin for the Roman Rite. This Latin missal was given to all of us and is call the editio typica, meaning that it is the original or source document for all Roman Missals, whatever the language. Once a new edition of the Latin Missal has been published, the bishops must direct the translation of the Missal into their own language. The 2011 English Roman Missal, that will replace the missal now in use, is our translation of the rd edition of the Missale Romanum. At the beginning, our attention to some changes in the words of the prayers will offer us all an opportunity to improve our conscious participation in the Mass. The language of this translation will promote understanding of the action of Christ and the Church in the Liturgy. Peter received his special call when he acknowledged Jesus as Messiah. We who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior also receive a special call. They represent the trust and authority of the owner when given to another person. We may give our house key to a trusted friend to take care of our matters while we are away. We may give keys to someone responsible for maintaining or working in a particular building. Keys to vehicles are given to people who have proven themselves responsible drivers. The readings today focus on this kind of trust the trust that conveys authority and responsibility. In the first reading, the symbol is specifically that of a key; but the second reading and the Gospel also speak of trust and leadership as they refer to the earthly church that Jesus established. TODAY S READINGS First Reading Eliakim is destined by God to be a father to those who live in Jerusalem (Isaiah 22:19-23). Psalm Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands (Psalm 138). Second Reading How deep are the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! (Romans 11:33-36). Gospel Jesus asked the disciples, Who do you say that I am? Peter replied, You are the Christ (Matthew 16:13-20). The presider at the Eucharist can choose from among a number of different Eucharistic Prayers, all of which follow a similar pattern. Almost always, they begin with an epiclesis, a Greek word that means invocation upon or calling over here. At this moment in the prayer, the priest calls down the Holy Spirit upon the gifts of bread and wine that we have brought to the altar: Father, we bring you these gifts. We ask you to make them holy by the power of your Spirit, that they may become the body and blood of your Son (Eucharistic Prayer III). The words of the prayer are accompanied by the ritual gesture of the laying on of hands, the ancient sign of the gift of the Spirit, which is also used in most sacramental celebrations, from the rite of confirmation to the ordination of deacons, priests, and bishops. Liturgists sometimes call this first epiclesis the epiclesis of consecration. Later in the Eucharistic Prayer, there will be another epiclesis, the epiclesis of communion, as the priest asks that the Holy Spirit be sent upon us to transform us. Grant that we, who are nourished by his body and blood, may be filled with his Holy Spirit, and become one body, one spirit in Christ (Eucharistic Prayer III).
