4 Page Four Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time..February 3, 2019 FAITH FORMATION (GRADES 1-6) All classes are held in Fr. Crawford Hall according to the me/grade level. GRADE 2: Saturday, February 2 from 8:30-9:45 a.m. GRADE 1: Sunday, February 3 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. for their First Grade Retreat. Families are asked to come to the Children s Liturgy of the Word at 10:30 a.m. Mass prior to the Retreat. Children are invited to par cipate in carrying the banner and joining the entrance procession. GRADE 6: Tuesday, February 5 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. GRADE 4: Wednesday, February 6 from 5:00-6:15 p.m. GRADE 5: Wednesday, February 6 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. GRADE 3: Saturday, February 9 from 8:30-9:45 a.m. GRADE 2: Sunday, February 10 from 9:30-10:15 a.m. The Sacrament of Reconcilia on will begin this week and con nue for the next few classes for all children in Grades 4, 5, and 6. GRADE 5 RETREAT: Our Grade 5 students will par cipate in an a ernoon Retreat on Saturday, February 2 from 3:00 5:00 p.m. in Fr. Crawford Hall followed by 5:00pm Mass and a Pizza Social at 6pm to conclude our day. Families are asked to join their children at Mass and a erwards for pizza and fellowship. GRADE 1 RETREAT Our Retreat for Grade 1 students will take place on Sunday, February 3 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. and will be in place of the regularly scheduled class on that day. Pizza will be served to students before we begin the retreat. We ask and encourage families to take their children to 10:30 a.m. Mass that morning and par cipate in Chlldren s Liturgy of the Word prior to the Retreat. CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD: Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the 10:30 am Mass. Our presiders are Aleeta Jeamel and Mary and John Breton along with Confirma on Candidate Joseph Segreto. The family of Connor Pra will host the refreshments. GRADE 3 PARENT FIRST EUCHARIST MEETING A mandatory mee ng for parents of Grade 3 children receiving their First Holy Communion will take place on Monday, February 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Father Crawford Hall. At least one parent MUST be in a endance. GRADE 4 RETREAT A special thank you to all the Catechists, Facilitators, and Confirma on Candidates who helped make our first Grade 4 Retreat such a success! It was a great team effort by all! 7th & 8th grade Faith Formation: Next gathering for our 8th grade class is Tues. Feb. 12 th, and our 7th grade class will meet on Wed. Feb. 13th. Class is held from 6:30-8pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. Confirmation 2019 :The next gathering for our 9th graders will be on Sunday, February 10th from 3:00-6:00pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. Youth Ministry: Super Sunday this weekend!! Feb. 3rd, 3:00 5pm. Join us for some prayer time and reflection, followed by snacks, Super Bowl games and activities. All High School aged kids are invited and most welcome to join us for this "Super" way to spend the afternoon.

5 Page Five Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time..February 3, 2019 PRAYER CORNER The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Committee on Migration has designated Feb. 8 as an annual day of prayer for survivors and victims of human trafficking. On this day, let each of us pray for the emotional, physical and spiritual healing of victims. Prayer for the End of Human Trafficking Adapted from a Prayer of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth We raise our voices in anguished prayer for our sisters and brothers, women and girls, men and boys, who are modern day slaves. They are your beloved children, our daughters and sons, exploited sexually or forced to work because of human violence and greed. Fill us with your holy anger and your sacred passion: that those who are trafficked might know healing and wholeness, justice and peace; that traffickers will come to repentance and conversion; that all of us might live in such a way that others are not made to pay the price for our comfort and convenience. May we look forward to the day when all people are treated with dignity, respect and compassion; that all are afforded opportunities to grow and thrive. May we hasten the coming of the day when our Earth will be not a commodity, but a precious source of abundant life for all and a radiant image of your beauty; that all your people will be sacred to You and to each other. 7 Page Seven Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time..February 3, 2019 AN ONGOING MISSION In his hometown synagogue, Jesus neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, Is this not Joseph s son? Surely the people know who he is. The carpenter s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street. Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Elijah and Elisha the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all. In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul reminds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In today s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus mission cannot be contained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new challenges. We are called to this same perseverance in the name of love. TODAY S READINGS \ First Reading I am with you to deliver you, says the L (Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19). There was a widespread belief in the first religions of the world that God stirred creation into being by a word, a song, a musical note. Music and a sense of God s presence have always been inseparable. In the liturgy, your voice is invited into this song as the priest names the reasons for our praise. Heaven and earth are full of your glory, and we are not passive onlookers, but participants in this glory. Catholic prayer no longer assigns this angelic hymn to a choir, but gives it to you to sing. Even if your voice is thought to be suitable only for a well insulated shower stall, you are called into this song. We are born to sing just listen to a baby testing the full range of newly discovered vocal abilities. Soon we get shushed and hushed into quiet, and given lots of messages that our voices are unwanted, and that we need to raise our hands in order to be heard. All of that is overturned in liturgy, the place where God waits to hear us come alive in the song of all creation. In heaven, everyone s in the choir; why not start practicing now?
