The Lord s Service January 7, 2018 *All who are able, please stand. Prelude *Song of Praise with Greeting You Have Been Good O Lord, You have been good, You have been faithful to all generations; O Lord, Your steadfast love And tender mercy have been our salvation. For by Your hand we have been fed; And by Your Spirit we have been led. O Lord, Almighty God, Father unchanging, upright and holy; O Lord, You have been good, You have been faithful. You have been good. You have been faithful. You have been good. (1988 Ariose Music) Welcome and Announcements God Calls Us In silent meditation, prepare to meet the unchanging God in worship. *Call to Worship LEADER: Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. PEOPLE: I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. LEADER: My soul shall make its boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad. PEOPLE: Oh, magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together. *Salutation Pastor Mullinax

*Hymn No. 81 O Love of God, How Strong and True *Invocation God Cleanses Us Elder Jason Brown Reading of the Law of God LEADER: Hear now the commandments of your God, which He has commanded you to keep saying, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and great commandment. PEOPLE: And the second, like unto it is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. LEADER: Have you fully obeyed the Lord in all that He has commanded? PEOPLE: No, but we have sinned against Him in thought, word, and deed. LEADER: Then confess your sins to the Lord for with Him there is mercy and abundant redemption. Corporate Confession of Sin (in unison) Merciful God, You pardon all who truly repent and turn to You. We humbly confess our sins and ask Your mercy. We have not loved You with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with You, our God. Have mercy on us, O God, in Your loving-kindness. In Your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from Your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation, and sustain us with Your bountiful Spirit. Amen. 2

Declaration of Pardon LEADER: Lift up your heads and hear the good news...the peace of the Lord be with you! PEOPLE: And also with you! *Hymn No. 305 Arise, My Soul, Arise God Consecrates Us Old Testament Reading Elder Dean Elwood Psalm (p. 463) LEADER: This is the Word of the Lord. PEOPLE: Thanks be to God..Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Offertory Anthem All People That on Earth Do Dwell From Psalm 100 Choir All people that on earth do dwell, sing to the Lord with cheerful voice! Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell. Come ye before Him and rejoice! O enter then His gates with praise. Approach with joy His courts unto. Praise, laud, and bless His name always, for it is seemly so to do. For why? The Lord our God is good. His mercy is forever sure. His truth at all times firmly stood, and shall from age to age endure. To Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the God whom heaven and earth adore, From men and from the angel host be praise and glory evermore. (Forrest, 2009 Harold Flammer Music) *Doxology No. 733 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below: alleluia, alleluia! Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! *Prayer of the Church Pastor Mullinax 3

*Hymn Holy Spirit Scripture Lesson I Peter (p. 1014) Sermon A CALL TO JOY Dr. Herb Ward 4

*Hymn No. 215 While by the Sheep We Watched at Night *Confession of Faith (in unison) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. The Apostles Creed I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *Gloria Patri No. 735 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, amen. "catholic" -- universal 5

God Communes with Us *The Celebration of the Lord s Supper LEADER: Lift up your hearts. PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord. LEADER: Let us give thanks to the Lord. PEOPLE: It is good and right so to do LEADER: It is right, and good, and a joyful thing Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we praise and magnify your glorious Name, ever more praising and singing... *Song of Ascent Sanctus The Institution 6

Distribution Hymn Before the Throne of God Above *Hymn No. 460 Amazing Grace! (vs. 1-3, 6) God Commissions Us *Benediction Postlude 7 Dr. Ward
