1 Parish notes WELCOME TO ALL VISITORS! Trinity is a place where you will find open minds, open hearts and open doors. We believe that as people of God, we can all share in God's love; a love that is inclusive, ever abundant and meant to be expressed through our action in the world. We are delighted to have you with us and hope you will come back often. If you would like to learn more about life here at Trinity please: Fill out a Welcome Card Join us for coffee on the Labyrinth Plaza The Worship Bulletin you received along with this handout will be your basic guide through this morning s liturgy. Parish Notes: In the column to the right you will find the scripture readings, hymns and other music for this service. The following pages contain further information about today s worship and our upcoming meetings and events. Hymn Singing: The hymn numbers are listed to the right and on the pillars at the front of the church. The Hymnal is the red book located in the pew rack in front of you. Ages 3-5 meet upstairs, grades 1-3 meet downstairs and grades 4-6 meet upstairs in the church school. Trinity Youth Group includes all 7th-12th graders, meeting approximately twice each month, usually on Sunday afternoons. See articles in Parish Notes for information on upcoming activities. The meeting lasts for about an hour and a half and is a great opportunity to meet the clergy and other Trinity members with the goal of just getting to know each other a little better. Where: Mark Asman s Home 2325 Wellington Time: 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. starts promptly at 5:30 RSVP to the church office: , office@trinitysb.org or sign up at the Welcome Table. BEFRIENDING THE UNKNOWN RE-VISITED - Begins Saturday, Oct. 10, followed by 6 Saturdays (second Saturday of the month) Our Circles of Trust program this year will revisit the theme of Befriending the Unknown. Given this time of transition for our parish community, it seems especially appropriate to explore the notion of befriending the unknown, the changes, and transitions that we face now and throughout our lives. The manner in which we meet these thresholds has a profound impact on our quality of life. The program offers geography of loss and impermanence, of life and death that teaches us a great deal about how to live fully. For more information or to register come to the Welcome Table or contact: Georgia Noble, gnoble@cox.net, and CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER - Wednesday, October 14, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Those who appreciate holy silence and those who seek to experience it are welcome at the Trinity contemplative prayer group, gathering next on Wednesday, October 14, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Norma Stuck will facilitate the session. THE TRINITY WISDOM GROUP Meets Monday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Meditation Chapel. We will be reading the Introduction and Chapter 1 of Richard Rohr s Immortal Diamond. Contact : Faye Cox faye.cox@me.com PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE NEWS On Sunday, October 25 following the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services there will be a presentation of, and conversation about what we learned from our Parish Survey. There are some very interesting new findings about who we are -- demographics, participation in our shared ministries, our views about worship, our values as a religious community, views about the future and much more. Mark your calendar! episcopal campus ministry at st. michaels in IV As Fall quarter classes begin at UCSB, keep in your thoughts and prayers for new and returning students and the community of Isla Vista. Level II will work with the Fettucia materials, the timeline representing all the gifts of love God has given and continues to give through all of creation. Level III will consider God s presence with us in human history, and reflect on how decisions and choices may either support or hinder God s desire for unity among people and all creation. 6 PSALM 124 REFRAIN If the Lord had not been on our side, let Israel now say; If the Lord had not been on our side, when enemies rose up against us; Then would they have swallowed us up alive in their fierce anger toward us; Then would the waters have overwhelmed us and the torrent gone over us; Then would the raging waters have gone right over us. REFRAIN Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us over to be a prey for their teeth. We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
