Consent Agenda The minutes from the March meeting were approved unanimously without changes. Old Business Capital Campaign Update We have $9,999,479 over 805 pledges. [addendum end of meeting: $521 was donated during the meeting and we now have $10,000,000.]

2 Capital Project Update We are still working on a resolution with Turner Construction, who has agreed that our warranty covers two ongoing problems (cracking paint and porch). They have identified some proposed solutions to deal with these, and Turner has agreed to take responsibility for it either way. There is still a gap on change order requests; this, too, is an ongoing conversation. Some meetings have been scheduled to attempt to resolve these issues. A team has been on campus repairing the paint; next week they will sandblast the patio in the hopes that some of the issues with it will be lessened. There are also some major projects that we are hoping to pick off this summer: repairing the parking lot in some sense, repairing the Leffler House solarium, fixing the portico lighting, and the St. Nicholas Building roof. New Business Education for Ministry (EfM) Education for Ministry is a seminar-style theological education out of Sewanee. We are planning to increase the number of sections from two to three: Sunday night, Monday morning, and Monday night. There are some spaces, and some scholarships. The mentors are Maria Coldwell, Penelope Jackson, and Tom Hayton, and they will be available to meet with prospective participants and to sign them up over the summer. It is lay-led and lay-mentored, which is particularly special. Those interested can talk to any of the mentors, Jennifer, or Nancy. College for Congregational Development (CCD) The College for Congregational Development is a two-year program geared toward lay-leaders in Episcopal parishes offered either one week or over four weekends each year. If you are interested and available, please let Lynne know. Peace Pole We will be the recipients of a Peace Pole, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Seattle. Parishioner Roberta Nestaas is a member of Rotary and proposed the pole, and we are now negotiating a date on which to install it. It will go in the garden area near the front by the women s restroom. Each pole will have the phrase, May peace prevail on Earth in English, Hebrew, Arabic, and Spanish. We will have a small ceremony and blessing for it. Ralph suggested inviting members of the language communities (Casa Latina, El Centro de la Raza, Temple de Hirsch, perhaps Idriss Mosque). Baptismal Font A new baptismal font has been commissioned by Bill and Ruth True. The charges were that the font has running water as well as capacities for full immersion baptism. The mockup will be shared when it is generated; the hope is that the font will be made over the summer, installed in

3 October, and then will then be dedicated on Sunday, October 21 st with the donor windows and wall. United Churches Emergency Fund (UCEF) Report UCEF provides resources to help combat homelessness in Seattle. Saint Mark s donated $1,000 in December. Marjorie Ringness went and met with them and provided a report to the Vestry. They need a new liaison from Saint Mark s and other volunteers. Erik said that people make use of that ministry at Saint Mark s around once per week. Rosemarie LeMoine volunteered to serve as the new UCEF liaison. Annual Investment Distribution Every year, we take out a 4% draw from our investment portfolio (the portfolio is at the Diocesan Investment Fund). A Vestry resolution is required to request these funds. Vestry Resolution #18-FI-02 was put forth, seconded, and approved. Leadership Reports Canons Jennifer wanted to highlight three things. The staff is doing well and people are working collaboratively. Adam Conley has joined the staff as the new Seattle Service Corps Director. He and Malcolm are working together to ensure a smooth transition. We already have two people signed up for the Service Corps for the upcoming year. Other organization partners are on the docket too for potential Service Corps positions. The Esther de Waal book, Seeking God: The Way of St. Benedict - May 6, June 3, and July 10 are parish forums for discussing the book. Nancy and Jennifer are having similar conversations with the staff. There is a new travelling art exhibit opening June 10 that will run through August 7, called I AM. It is 31 pieces of art by Middle Eastern women artists. We are reaching out to several of our faith partners to be part of this exhibit and perhaps have some programming. All the pieces will be all around the Nave. Jennifer is excited to see the community engage with it. Senior Warden Cathedral Day is this Saturday, April 28. Please let Lynne know if you are able to volunteer. A Wardens Forum is scheduled for Sunday, May 13. We will be reviewing the position statement approved by the Vestry in December 2016 (Renewing our Covenant: A Statement of Commitment and Action), and where the congregation can go with the statement from here, as well as providing a general update.

4 A Justice Ministry retreat is scheduled for May 12. The focus of it is homelessness and a strategic plan around that. The Rev. Canon Britt Olson will be the facilitator for the day. Lynne attended the sanctuary meeting last week, and was impressed by how far our Sanctuary Ministry has progressed. Ministry Highlight - Communications Liz Bartenstein and David Wild were present to talk about the videography projects that have been going on. While Chris Brown performs the livestreaming on Sundays as well as the Wednesday forums, after David became involved, there was opportunity to expand our videography. David has commercial videography experience, and wanted to make some small pieces about Saint Mark s. It has been a real gift for David to work on this project and meet new people, and hopes to incorporate some of his interpolations on our website. A sample of David s work was presented to the Vestry. Ministry/Committee Structure and Reports Diocesan Members of the Vestry - Mary, Greg Mary and Greg were both absent from the meeting. Worship and Music - Amanda, Jim Amanda and Jim participated in a meeting of worship leaders this past month, conducted by Canon Musician Michael Kleinschmidt. They went through the Lent services and reviewed what went well and what didn t quite go as well, and what can be done differently next year. Youth/Children Faith Formation - Ralph This committee has not met; the ministry as a whole will miss Malcolm, but Kelly Moody has been doing very well. Adult Faith Formation - Bob, Neshia Adult forums have been scheduled through July 8; topics include the Esther de Waal book and the I AM exhibit. On May 16, Paige Foreman, the Seattle Service Corps intern will be conducting a Cathedral Commons forum. Bob encourages everyone to attend. There are also several plans for the fall.

5 Justice (JMCT) - Julia There will be a closer relationship to the Seattle Service Corps, as well as a process document for new ministries getting added to the Justice Ministries Coordinating Team. Creation Care - Andrew Steve and Andrew met to talk about what this ministry might look like; there is a notice in Sundays and Beyond, and Andrew has been contacted by several interested people. Andrew is hoping to develop an advisory committee centered on creation care. A few informational events will be scheduled. Vinh asked about whether there was any outreach to indigenous communities; Andrew will look into this. Hospitality - Rosemarie The Hospitality Ministry s biggest project at the moment is Cathedral Day; there is also a ministry to put together small receptions for funerals at Saint Mark s. Communications - Andrew, Michael The Communications Committee met recently; they have decided to break off small sub-groups to focus on different engagements. The committee as a whole meets every other month. Stewardship - Ralph, Vinh The Stewardship Committee has not met, but Ralph thanked Jennifer for recognizing ministries over Easter. Finance - Cara, Amanda, Vinh An audit will be conducted of the Cathedral s 2017 finances in early May; our yearly budget is where we expect it to be. Facilities - Bob, Jim, Julia The Facilities Committee will not meet until May. Cathedral Foundation of the Diocese of Olympia - Lynne The Cathedral Foundation is continuing its pilot in developing a long-term planned giving program. A workgroup is determining how to best engage with potential prospects and have identified some selected participants with whom to pilot these new methods. Check Out and Closing Prayer There was a check-out, and then Vinh gave a closing prayer. The next Vestry meeting will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 6:00pm in the Council Room at Diocesan House.
