Update about Randy Howard Dear Trinity family, take note First of all, thanks to all of you on Team Randy for your love and prayers and notes and cards these past months. Your support makes all the difference to Randy and to me. At long last, Randy starts treatment on February 1 at City of Hope. As you know, we ve been waiting for the national clinical trial for his type of leukemia to start at City of Hope and we ve just heard this past week that he is admitted to the study. In this clinical study, Randy will receive oral chemotherapy (two different drugs in pill form.) We will travel to City of Hope every 28 days for the next months, with weekly visits scheduled during the fourth month of the trial. Randy continues to trust that he is in the best of hands, from his oncologist at Sansum to the team at City of Hope. He is still working at Sansum, and hopes to keep up his work throughout the therapy, as side effects aren t supposed to be too bad. But we don t know for certain how things will go. During these months of waiting, and living with uncertainty, we learn a little bit each day about how to live with the unknown. I know that many of you are already practiced at this kind of living. So we go on, living with hope, surrounded by your love, and always remember that we re all in this together. Thanks so much for being part of the Team, Coach Anne Anne Howard sbannemarie@gmail.com mid week worship Contemplative Prayer: A Trinity group practices various forms of Christian contemplative prayer monthly on the second Wednesday evening, 7-8pm, in the Fireside Room. 7 ANNUAL PARISH MEETING SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11 Trinity worships together as one congregation at 9:30am, followed by the annual meeting. This year, we ll elect four new vestry members, welcome a new Parish Council and approve a budget for the upcoming year. All are welcome to participate! MEET THE NEW VESTRY NOMINEES FOR 2018 Kaye Cantu I began attending Trinity in the 1980s, when my family moved to Santa Barbara. I attended church school and youth group, served as an acolyte, as well as a caregiver for the church s youngest attendees. Yet the significance of this beautiful place of worship was only revealed to me after I returned as an adult. At Trinity Church, I am nurtured by the progressive and positive messages that resound from the compassionate clergy and parishioners. My desire to ensure the continuation of the principles and beliefs of this remarkable church has lead me to be an active member with the Stewardship and Legacy Circle committees. I am greatly privileged and and humbled to be a Vestry member at this critical time in our history. With support from my husband, Marc, and son, Elliott, I am committed to continuing Trinity Church s legacy of Open Minds, Open Hearts, and Open Doors, for future generations. Melinda Carey I arrived at Trinity in 2003 after worshiping and working at All Saints-by-the-Sea for almost twenty years. I retired from Trinity after ten years of holding down the front office. I have served on the Commission on Ministry for the Diocese of Los Angeles in the past and it provided me with a wonderful view of the larger church. While at Trinity I have served on the Stewardship Committee for the past several years and I have been a delegate to convention. I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve on the vestry of Trinity. I appreciate the transparency of the leadership at Trinity and how they keep the parish informed. Our ability as a parish to seek consensus and to work for the common good is a model I can happily join and promote. Or as they said in the 80 s, The future is so bright we gotta wear shades. Elaine Christ My husband, Al and I began coming to Trinity in Our three children were baptized at Trinity and I was a Sunday school teacher when they were young. I previously served on the Vestry in when Mark Asman was called to be our rector and I was Hospitality Council Co-chair I am currently active in the Wedding Guild and Welcome Team. I work as Director of Manufacturing at the Carpinteria site of Agilent Technologies, a biotech company. I love Trinity s focus on social justice and inclusion. I look forward to serving on the next vestry to help in calling a new rector to Trinity. Steve Kriz Soon after stepping through Trinity s open doors in 2002, my family knew this place could be our new spiritual home. Over the years, I have served in the Hands and Heart Ministry, Investment Committee, and Hospitality Ministry. As an accountant by trade, I will bring to the vestry my experience in fiscal and strategic planning. As a member of Trinity, I truly appreciate the dedication and commitment of all those who have made Trinity a very special place for so many in our community. It was an honor to receive the nomination and it will be my intent to offer my gifts from a place of love and shared responsibility. episcopal campus ministry st. michael s in IV UCSB began a shortened Winter quarter on Tuesday 1/16.
