Children s Worship Helps There are activity sheets available from an usher as well as crayons and books on the library shelves located in the Narthex. We Celebrate Holy Communion All are welcome to the Lord s Table. The wine is offered either by individual or common cup. For those who would prefer grape juice, it is already poured in cups in the center of the communion tray. While the age-appropriateness of when a child should receive the holy meal is not insignificant, a child s age should not preclude full participation in the sacrament. It is God s free gift to all, received in the spirit of faith that God can and does transcend all cognitive and emotive ability to fully understand the profound mystery of this most sacred of meals. At the same time, to more fully appreciate the rich and varied textures of the Holy Meal, one would do well to enroll their child in First Communion Instruction when he/she feels his/her child is of an age where such instruction would be meaningful. In short, the gift of God s grace offered to us in the Holy Meal is free, but it is not cheap. If you have questions about the ageappropriateness of your child s receiving the Holy Meal, please schedule a time to meet with Pastor John to discuss your concerns. For those with gluten allergies, a gluten-free option is available. Once you come forward to the table during Holy Communion, let Pastor John know you d like a gluten-free communion wafer. 2

12 THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE Leader: All: Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. 21 WHAT S HAPPENING NEW LITURGY - Today we begin using the Setting 6 liturgy from the ELW hymnal. This a gospel setting of the liturgy that was written by James Capers, a Lutheran pastor, musician and author who was instrumental in the creation of the Lutheran Hymnal, "This Far By Faith". In that publication, the liturgy that we introduce was called "Liturgy of Joy". Charles, Susan and Sarah Peterson were blessed to meet Pastor Capers at the 1993 Church wide Assembly in Kansas City where he introduced and played this liturgy in an evening worship service. You are encouraged to join in and sing to the Lord. God does not care how great or not so great your singing is. By your participation in the music, your soul is uplifted and the congregation is enriched. Liturgy is, after all, "the work of the people". Sing to the Lord with a Joyful Heart! The Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival is now accepting applications for band, choir, orchestra, piano and pipe organ musicians in grades This will be held on the campus of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa from June 23 to July 21, Further information can be obtained at or by talking to Susan Peterson. Capital Campaign This project, including a new air conditioner, a small re-roof, and a new solar power system, was approved by the congregation on August 19 th. We are trying to cover the cost through the sale of 130 Solar panels at $1,080 each over the next 5 years. However, we would like to receive $50,000 by the end of October this year, since we have to pay for the solar system when the installation is complete. Please make a pledge and or a donation as soon as you can to help with the project. Cards are available in the narthex. We would like to complete the pledge drive by the end of next week - October 15 th. 22
