Your vestry answers why BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS $23,131 in additional expenses (a 3% increase from our 2018 budget) Here s how that breaks down: $18,902 of the additional expenses (or 82% of this increase) is in just three areas: 1. Assistant Sexton on Sunday $3, Worship and Music $6,706 Second of 3-year step increases in salary for our Ministers of Music and additional funding for organ and piano tuning/ maintenance 3. Contract Services $8,738 primarily due to landscape maintenance being moved from capital project funding into our annual operating budget The remaining $4,229 consists of overall increased costs of doing business, including a modest cost of living increase (2%) for staff. SO WHY DO WE NEED AN ADDITIONAL $96,666 IN INCOME? The fact is that we have had a structural deficit in our budgets for the past several years. The Vestry has budgeted annually for a full time Rector and Associate Rector at appropriate salary and benefits levels. However, over the past three years, we have not had to actually pay full annual salaries and benefits to our clergy and, until recently, the Associate Rector s salary was below diocesan standards for a church of our size. We have finished the past two years in the black (barely) only because we have had substantial savings in clergy salaries and benefits. With the extension of Laurel s contract as our Associate Rector and the arrival of Elizabeth as our full-time Rector with attendant benefits for both, we will need to bridge a $73,535 structural deficit in addition to the $23,131 in increased expenses for Claude Garciacelay, Senior Warden Michael Dean, Treasurer Jean Davis, Vestry Member 2 our mission As God s people, we will share the love of God in a way that nurtures body, mind and spirit. Demonstrating God s love for the world, we will serve a diverse population and accept one another without reservations. By including all people as one family in worship and service to God, we are all empowered and inspired by the Spirit to continue the work of Jesus Christ.

3 ADVENT SERIES THE BODY S ROLE IN SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION Three Tuesdays of Advent December 4, 11 and 18 In the Chancel take note Advent 1 - Tuesday, December 4, 7-9pm Led by The Rev. Elizabeth Rechter During the Season of Advent we prepare to encounter once again the mystery of the Incarnation the embodiment of God in the person of Jesus. The upcoming Advent series invites us to turn inward, to listen to the language of the body as a meeting place of the Divine. In Advent, we expectantly wait alongside Mary, from whom the body of Christ was birthed into the world. In this Advent workshop we will be introduced to the spiritual practice called BioSpiritual Focusing. The practice of BioSpiritual Focusing is about rediscovering the lost body-connection with our Christian spirituality. We learn that as incarnated spirits, our bodies are more than a collection of sensing devices for the mind to analyze. They hold wisdom and can serve as a channel for grace. At the heart of this practice is the awareness that our source of life is within us and God meets us there. During times of transition, waiting and preparation by connecting with our feelings, the language of the body, we can be lead to insights into the movement of grace in our lives and discover the hidden depths and breadth of God s presence in renewed and often surprising ways. Elizabeth, an experienced teacher and retreat leader, currently serves as the Executive Director of Stillpoint: the Center for Christian Spirituality, in Southern California. Stillpoint is a formation program for spiritual directors and provides programs for the support of contemplative practice. Advent 2 - Tuesday, December 11, 7-8pm and Advent 3 - Tuesday, December 18, 7-8pm Led by The Rev. Laurel Johnston and Sarah Thomas, Candidate for Holy Orders Laurel and Sarah will integrate the practice of focusing into a chant and meditation during the one hour service for week two and week three of the series. To register for the Advent Series, please sign up at the Welcome Table. Justice & Outreach Forum Sunday, November 18, 11:30-12:30pm What does an amount equal to 5% of your pledges go towards in addition to the celebration offerings? Justice & Outreach ministries! Since 2015, Trinity has focused on economic justice: food insecurity addressed by the Hunger Advocacy Working Committee aka HAWC in partnership with the Foodbank; ECE/child care addressed by the Early Care & Education Working Group in partnership with Storyteller Children s Center; and the living wage issue in partnership with SB s Living Wage Advisory Committee. Frozen purchased casseroles are also welcome. Contact: office@trinitysb.org. WARMING CENTER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Trinity Church is part of the interfaith community which opens its doors to the unsheltered during the cold and rainy months from November-March.
