1 Parish notes WELCOME TO ALL VISITORS! Trinity is a place where you will find open minds, open hearts and open doors. We believe that as people of God, we can all share in God's love; a love that is inclusive, ever abundant and meant to be expressed through our action in the world. We are delighted to have you with us and hope you will come back often. If you would like to learn more about life here at Trinity please: Fill out a Welcome Card Join us for coffee on the Labyrinth Plaza Parish Notes: These pages contain information about today s worship and our upcoming meetings and events. Open Communion: From whatever tradition you come and wherever you are in your journey of faith, you are welcome at our table. You will find simple directions on how to participate in the worship bulletin. Gluten-Free wafers are available, just ask when the bread is presented to you. Prayer Ministers are available during communion at the 10am service. Proceed to the back of the church to receive prayer and laying on of hands. Children & Youth: Trinity offers religious formation for ages 3½ -12 through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program. Children gather on Sundays starting at 9am in the church school behind the sanctuary. Trinity Youth Group includes all 7th- 12th graders, and meets approximately twice each month, usually on Sunday afternoons. See Parish Notes for upcoming activities. Children at Communion: Children are brought into the church during the Offertory Hymn to join us for Holy Communion. At this point, you are welcome to gather your children from the nursery to be with you. SWITCH SUNDAY RESCHEDULED! FEBRUARY 25, 8 & 10am SERVICES The Vestry and the Children and Youth Council invite all parishioners to join us at the 8am or 10am services on February 25 for Switch Sunday! Switch Sunday is an extraordinary day when all adults in our parish get to experience the delight of our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program through atrium presentations. You might hear about the Pharisee and the Publican, the Unforgiving Servant, or Jesus Presentation in the Temple. You might explore God s power working in small things, or discuss how God s plan has been working itself out in the last century. While the adults of the parish are enjoying their atrium encounters, our church school children will have the chance for their own one-on-one time with Trinity clergy, as they receive sanctuary tours and get to see sacramental materials up close. After our time of seeing how the other half lives, we will all come back together in the sanctuary for the Eucharist and celebrate together the unity and joy we find around God s table. Please come, especially if you don t have children in our church school program. This Sunday is meant for you! CONTACTS: Nursery/Toddler care Marisa Brenninkmeyer, nursery@trinitysb.org Church School ages 3 12 and Youth ages Elizabeth Hess, ehess@trinitysb.org TODAY IN THE CHURCH SCHOOL Children at Trinity meet most Sundays for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program (CGS). Since each Level of the program covers a range of ages, often several lessons are offered each Sunday, with most children taking part in only one. Today Level I will work with the materials for the Parable of the Good Shepherd and reflect further on the Parable of the Mustard Seed. Level II will consider the meaning of the gesture of Peace, and will continue work with the materials depicting God s great gifts in creation. Level III will continue their work with the Old Testament accounts of Moses in Egypt, this week focusing on Moses negotiations with Pharaoh. YOUTH GROUP Next Meeting: Sunday, February pm Baptism, a principle sacrament of the church, is a joyous public service of initiation. The gathered community takes vows to support the newly baptized, celebrates with and welcomes them. At Trinity we baptize people of any age within regular worship services. Here is the schedule of baptismal service for 2017: The Last Sunday after the Epiphany (Sunday, February 11) The Feast of the Resurrection (Easter Eve Vigil, March 31 for adults with an earlier time for children) The Sixth Sunday after Pentecost (Sunday, July 1) The Feast of All Saints (Sunday, November 4) 3

7 ANNUAL PARISH MEETING SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11 Trinity worships together as one congregation at 9:30am, followed by the annual meeting. This year, we ll elect four new vestry members, welcome a new Parish Council and approve a budget for the upcoming year. All are welcome to participate! MEET THE NEW VESTRY NOMINEES FOR 2018 Kaye Cantu I began attending Trinity in the 1980s, when my family moved to Santa Barbara. I attended church school and youth group, served as an acolyte, as well as a caregiver for the church s youngest attendees. Yet the significance of this beautiful place of worship was only revealed to me after I returned as an adult. At Trinity Church, I am nurtured by the progressive and positive messages that resound from the compassionate clergy and parishioners. My desire to ensure the continuation of the principles and beliefs of this remarkable church has lead me to be an active member with the Stewardship and Legacy Circle committees. I am greatly privileged and and humbled to be a Vestry member at this critical time in our history. With support from my husband, Marc, and son, Elliott, I am committed to continuing Trinity Church s legacy of Open Minds, Open Hearts, and Open Doors, for future generations. Melinda Carey I arrived at Trinity in 2003 after worshiping and working at All Saints-by-the-Sea for almost twenty years. I retired from Trinity after ten years of holding down the front office. I have served on the Commission on Ministry for the Diocese of Los Angeles in the past and it provided me with a wonderful view of the larger church. While at Trinity I have served on the Stewardship Committee for the past several years and I have been a delegate to convention. I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve on the vestry of Trinity. I appreciate the transparency of the leadership at Trinity and how they keep the parish informed. Our ability as a parish to seek consensus and to work for the common good is a model I can happily join and promote. Or as they said in the 80 s, The future is so bright we gotta wear shades. Elaine Christ My husband, Al and I began coming to Trinity in Our three children were baptized at Trinity and I was a Sunday school teacher when they were young. I previously served on the Vestry in when Mark Asman was called to be our rector and I was Hospitality Council Co-chair I am currently active in the Wedding Guild and Welcome Team. I work as Director of Manufacturing at the Carpinteria site of Agilent Technologies, a biotech company. I love Trinity s focus on social justice and inclusion. I look forward to serving on the next vestry to help in calling a new rector to Trinity. Steve Kriz Soon after stepping through Trinity s open doors in 2002, my family knew this place could be our new spiritual home. Over the years, I have served in the Hands and Heart Ministry, Investment Committee, and Hospitality Ministry. As an accountant by trade, I will bring to the vestry my experience in fiscal and strategic planning. As a member of Trinity, I truly appreciate the dedication and commitment of all those who have made Trinity a very special place for so many in our community. It was an honor to receive the nomination and it will be my intent to offer my gifts from a place of love and shared responsibility. take note TRINITY LENTEN SERIES Save the dates!
