3 WELCOME Welcome to Christ Church for the worship that continues the great three days, or the Triduum. Since the fourth century, with great devotion the church has honored the days of the Lord s Passion, venerating the wood of the cross, for that is where the Savior of the world gave the gift of his life. People wonder why we call this day good. It is because Christ has conquered death and won for us the victory of life. We rejoice and venerate the Cross as his victory, still standing over evil, sin, and death today. But our stark worship of this day recalls the horror of how the Sinless One was killed, bruised for our sins. And we are sad. On Good Friday, every parish in The Episcopal Church collects an offering to support ministry in the Holy Land, so that Christ s saving presence is shared where his life was lived. An offering plate is located in the back of the Chapel or you may give online. In our worship, we hear the story of Jesus arrested, his trial and humiliation, his crucifixion and death. We pray for the salvation of the world and all in need. At the end of the service, you are invited to come forward and kneel at the foot of the cross or sit in quiet contemplation, leaving the Chapel in silence. We hope you will return to share in the worship of Easter. You are welcome here. The Ministers enter in silence. All then kneel, as able, for silent prayer. Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Thomson When I think about the cross, when I think of Jesus, I m reminded of his love, love that never leaves me. Who am I that he should die, giving life so freely? When I think about the cross, help me to believe it.

4 Please kneel for The Prayers Leader In the silence that follows each prayer, please offer your own prayers, either silently or out loud. Dear People of God: Our heavenly Father sent his Son Jesus into the world, not to judge the world but to save the world so that all who believe in him will be freed from the power of sin and death, and receive everlasting life. Let us kneel to pray for all people everywhere according to their needs.. Let us pray for the Christian Church throughout the world; that God will strengthen the Church in faith, increase it in love, and preserve it in peace. Let us pray for all nations and people of the earth, and for those with power; that with God s help they may seek justice and truth and act for peace. Let us pray for all who suffer and are sick; that God will comfort them and give them his love. May God create in us the desire to help everyone who is sick, suffering, hungry, or homeless. Let us pray for all who have not heard the good news of Jesus; that God will open their hearts to truth, and lead them to faith. Let us commit ourselves to God, and pray for the grace of a holy life. Let us pray for all who have died in the peace of Christ and for those whose faith is known to God alone. Celebrant Celebrant O God of unchangeable power and eternal light: bless your whole Church. By your power and grace carry out in peace the plan of salvation. Let the whole world see and know that things which were thrown down are being raised up, and things which had grown old are being made new; and that all things are being made perfect through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen. You are invited to come forward for personal prayer and veneration at the cross or remain in quiet contemplation as you remember Jesus. Please leave the Chapel in silence. Or maybe you know a parishioner who is homebound or in a nursing facility who you would like to visit during Easter week? On Tuesday, April 18 we will deliver Easter plants to approximately 75 of our members who are homebound, have recently lost loved ones, or are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. We need drivers (men, women, or young adults GPS comes in handy too!) willing to help with the distribution. Drivers should arrive at the Church between 9 and 10 AM that morning to pick up flowers and prayer cards for their recipients.
