1 UCPC Community Care Line We invite all to faith in Jesus Christ and growth in discipleship through Word, Prayer, and Service. We are going to do something new this Christmas and add a noon time Christmas Eve Service for those who don't like to get out at night and for our families that have "Christmas" on Christmas Eve evening. I don't feel it will detract from our standard Candle Light service at 9:00pm Christmas Eve, but rather provide for a space for those who cannot make the late service for whatever reason. As fast as 2016 has flown by, we still have a lot of work before the New Year. Our Annual Meeting this Sunday, our Thanksgiving Dinner and Breakfast, Advent and of course Worship. Church is family, and Christ is at the head of the table. With this crazy year coming to a close, I think it is more important than ever for us to find unity in the Christian message, find contentment in God's love, and find respect for each other in Christ's gift of salvation and peace for all of God's Children. Prepare your hearts to join each other around the table, lend your voice to the singing of hymns and love on each other for the many blessings of which we know. Thanksgiving is a time of reflection, gratitude and humility; Advent is a time of preparation; and Christmas represents the Christian Promise: the promise of a new beginnings, a promise of salvation, and promises of love and nurturing. As we come to the end of 2016, rest in the reassurances of God's promise to each of us and be the agent where you can to extend that promise to those around you. Peace in Christ, Pastor Neill D. McKay Pastor s Note

4 UCPC Session News Highlights from Session October 20, Worship Committee met Oct. 5 th and discussed music and worship needs for Presbytery. Lucile will play both services, and has a djembe drum that David LaMotte can borrow. There will be communion by intinction at Friday night service and Sunday morning. A one page bulletin will be provided for Friday Services. Lucile asked Patti Gallagher to preach during Pastor McKay's absence on Oct. 23rd. For Advent, we decided to go with purple for the color and Sarah Lanstra will order materials as needed for the Advent Candles. Respectfully submitted, Lucile Hackett, Worship Chair 2. Finance Treasurer s and Stewardship Report: UCPC account balances on October 20th, 2016: Operating Account: $53,070 (Sep 16th $57,208) Designated account:$74,892 (Sep 16 th $74,296) Fuel account was $3729 in credit (Sept 16 th $690, $5000 added from Operations) Savings account at Wells Fargo $504. Credit card $0. We have paid all bills presented. Our financial situation is satisfactory. Income from pledges, loose offerings and rents: August $18,074 September $18,554 October $14,284 after 3 Sundays The finance committee created the Narrative Budget brochure (mostly Sarah s work) which will be tabled at the 20 th October meeting to discuss the issues and opportunities. Roger Smith, Chair 3. Mission and Service: The Committee met on October 4 to finalize Presbytery. We discussed our plan to donate the 25% ($384) of the Peace and Global Witness PC(USA) Offering collected on Oct. 2 to A Homeless Ministry. The total Offering was $1535, of which $1061 was passed to Presbytery during the worship on 10/7. We discussed the mechanics of collecting recyclables (paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans) at the Presbytery meeting Oct. 7 and 8. The David LaMotte concert on Oct. 9 will include canned food donations: the Fairbanks Community Food Bank will provide collection bins and pick up the donations. Pat Babcock will contact local media regarding publicity for this concert. We voted to use money available to this committee from the Free Trade Coffee Fund to pay for 3 nights stay at Wedgewood Resort for David LaMotte. The Coffee Fund presently contains $647. The offering taken at Presbytery worship on Saturday morning Oct. 8 was $829.12, and was donated to Bingle Camp. LOVE INC s Create-a-Gift Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 19. Muffie Durst is assembling a sewing craft project, and will begin calling for participants in worship service later this month. Pastor Neill did the on-line sign-up for UCPC to participate in LOVE INC s Adopt-a-Family program for this Christmas. The congregation will purchase gifts for our assigned family once we know their specific needs. Muffie Durst will discuss with Shelli Swanson to have the youth create needed-gift decorations that will be placed on a small tree in the narthex. The committee agreed to sponsor a viewing of a short film on Peacemaking and Reconciliation in Rwanda, to be held at UCPC in late October. Pastor Neill is obtaining more information about this so we can plan the event. Carol Nielsen, Chair. 4.
