2 Catholic Women s Organization of St. Louise de Marillac Parish Year in Review CWO Woman of the Year Helene Clarke We all know the saying, Time flies when you re having fun. This certainly exemplifies this past CWO year. Many monthly brunches after masses, including an International Lunch for parishioners, bus trips to Geneva and to Naper Settlement Christkindlmarket, the annual Breakfast with Santa, the St. Joseph s Day Feast, our parish Night of Reflection, the Rummage Sale, Woman of the Year Luncheon, and the 40th Anniversary of Ordination Celebration for Fr. Denis kept the members of the St. Louise CWO engaged for the benefit of our parishioners, our school, and our parish. The CWO has generously contributed to the following organizations at the end of this fiscal year: St. Louise ASP, St. Louise Teen Club, Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, ACCW Scholarship Fund, Priest Retirement Fund, Misericordia and the USO. Other donations were made during the year. Looking Forward to an Active New Year Lynette Kuharchuk, Denise Kadlcek, co-presidents of the CWO, and all of the active members encourage the women of our parish to enjoy a brunch with us, participate in a CWO activity, whether social or service, and get to know our CWO. We look forward to meeting you soon! We all need moments of silence to reflect on what we value and believe about life. Tuning out the noisy world helps people develop the ability to reflect and grow. Silence also facilitates mental prayer at a time when so many are in need of rediscovering it. We need the sacred to help lead the faithful into greater silence, particularly as the world relentlessly gives us noise. Making time for Eucharistic adoration gives us a positive stillness that will restore us. Such stillness a time of recollection, giving us an inward peace, allowing us to draw breath and rediscover the one thing necessary, which we have forgotten. submitted by Marylee Powderly. New Grief Support Gathering Hitzeman Funeral Home July 10 6:30-7:30pm- RSVP by July 6 We welcome you and your family to join us at our monthly Gathering. 5 High School Teen Club There will be Teen Club July 6 and 20. Teen Room opens at 7:30, open gym 8 until 10 PM. Remember to bring a high school ID. Contact forms are available at slmteenclub.weebly.com and in Youth Ministry bulletin rack. Tell your friends! Just 5 Days The service trip to Milwaukee was wonderful! We began our week learning about the Catholic Social Teaching of Solidarity. We are all one body in Christ. Our service site changed several times, but we were flexible! On Monday night, there was a huge storm, and Nia Imani, the center for women and children where we were supposed to serve, experienced flooding in the area where we were going to paint a mural. So we were sent to St. Michael Parish in Milwaukee's inner city, where we helped Owen, who does maintenance for two parishes, clean the church (including scraping gum from under pews!). The next day we went to Nia Imani. Their resale store also had some water problems, and we went through bag after bag of clothing, throwing out anything that was wet, and sorting the rest by gender and size. On day 4, we returned to Nia Imani, and painted a mural in the Family Center. The last day, all of the groups shared with one another what we had done and learned during Just5Days. After sharing in the Body of Christ at our closing liturgy, we left for home. More pictures will be in next week s bulletin. Girls Retreat Love Your Selfie! On August 2-3, join us for fun, games, prayer, and fellowship at Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs. Open to girls entering grades 8-12 in the school year. Participation in this retreat is limited to eight girls, due to the size of the venue. Cost is $20. Permission forms available in the Youth Ministry bulletin rack, the rectory, Teen Room, or from Karyn Miller. Summer Lock-In Water, water everywhere! Youth in grades 7-12 are invited to our summer lock-in, July Permission forms are available now! Cost is $10. See Karyn Miller for more information.

6 Prolife Rosary A pro-life rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed after Mass on the second Saturday each month. All are welcome! Food Pantry Items We are collecting on the 2nd Sunday of each month. Our Next Anointing Mass Thursday, July 5th at 8:30 am Meets on the second Wednesday of the month. Join us on June 13th from 1:00 to 2:30 in the church Gathering Room. If you knit or crochet, put your talents to good use. For information, call Jane at About The Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 1998 after two ladies in Hartford Ct. completed the Women s Leadership Institute. They wanted to carry on the spirit of the class through some kind of project. Thus began their journey as they prayed and knit shawls for women with breast cancer. Over time, the ministry spread to gift women and men going through various traumas or celebrations in their life. March 2001, eighteen ladies at St Louise de Marillac Parish began knitting or crocheting shawls at home and praying for their recipient. Monthly we meet in the gathering room in the back of church. We bring our finished shawl, sit in a circle, mention who it is for, and pass it around inviting each of us to bless and say a prayer for the intended recipient. We also keep a record of the recipients and pray daily for them on our own. While the majority of the shawls are given to people we know going through serious situations, many times we don t know who the recipient will be. Often, after minutes of intercession to the Holy Spirit a name will come to someone in the group and the prayed over shawl will be distributed. As of last month we have given out 1172 shawls, lovingly knit or crocheted by 11 people. Some of our creators are home bound and can t make the monthly meeting so they will bring the shawl to church when they come for Mass. At our monthly meeting, we will pray for that person s intention. Throughout the years we have received many thank you notes which one of our ladies has been kind enough to save in an album. Over and over again we hear stories of how meaningful the shawls are to the recipient. Comfort, consolation, and thoughtful are some of the words we hear expressed from our recipients. Though we don t perform this ministry for thanks it is most gratifying to hear how touched people are. If you are looking for an uplifting ministry to perform in the comfort of your home and bring meaning to others we invite you to join us.
