2 From the Business Office As we begin a new fiscal year (June 1, 2018 June 30, 2019), the Finance Council requested a revamp of the weekly bulletin announcement for parish collections. The new format was created to give parishioners a more transparent view of total weekly contributions and to demonstrate how the parish is performing toward meeting the revenue side of the budget for the fiscal year. Donations are received either through E-Giving or the Collection Basket and allocated to the major giving categories of Stewardship and Capital, to support all of operations of the parish. As depicted in the graph below, as of the end of July, the total YTD contributions ($56,800) are tracking just a little ahead of the YTD budget target ($55,000) for the same period. The Total Offertory Budget assumes a modest annual budget increase of approximately 2%, mirroring the current rate of inflation and allowing parish expenses to better match parish revenues. Parishioners may also wish to consider E-Giving, which provides you with a genuine chance to connect with your faith and your parish, even when you may find that the many demands of daily life make it difficult to maintain all of your obligations timely. Please consider registering with Give Central, and creating an individual profile, so that your generosity and assistance may be acknowledged year round (information is available in the bulletin and the parish website). You may have noticed that the chart in the church narthex, summarizing collections for the parking lot, has recently been updated. Two of the cars, representing approximately $35,000, are directed donations from individual parishioners. Five of the cars, representing approximately $95,000, are general donations to the Capital Improvement Fund. Six cars, representing approximately $122,500, is an allocation to capital of a generous estate bequest to the parish from a recently deceased parishioner. The funds from the estate bequest were deposited with the Archdiocesan Bank, to replenish our endowments and the funds utilized for the parking lot improvements. The largest uncompleted capital item is the landscaping plan, which is being implemented in phases, and has a current budget of approximately $10,500 for fiscal year Six trees have been planted along the perimeter of the campus and, along with the services and plants donated by a parishioner completing his Eagle Scout project, the entire perimeter of the church will be graded and mulched, with either organic materials or stone. The generosity of St. Louise parishioners is truly a blessing for everyone, as we share in the blessings that have come to fruition in the past fiscal year. Lynn Waterloo, Business Manager P.S. Women s Day of Reflection Choosing Forgiveness will be the theme of a Women s Day of Reflection led by Deacon Dave Brencic. Cost is $45 and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments. All are welcome. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS ARE NEEDED St. Louise has a critical need for Eucharistic Ministers at all masses. Only one training session is needed. It takes about an hour to complete, and can be scheduled at your convenience. Once training is completed, you choose the mass at which you would like to serve, and you will be scheduled based on your availability. New schedules for the fall months will soon be created. We are strongly urging everyone at St. Louise to take some time and consider joining this ministry. 5 Altar Servers Schedule Servers should have received the schedule up until Labor Day. Please remember that you are responsible for finding subs and letting the coordinator know who will be serving. Please go to SignUp Genius if you haven't yet selected your September Masses. The schedule will be completed and ed to all servers next weekend. Altar Servers Day, Our Lady of Victory Parish Bishop Manz and Pastors recognized the hard work of all Altar Servers in Vicariate IV with a Certificate of appreciation Award and celebration yesterday at Our Lady of Victory Parish in Chicago. Boys received a Pope Saint John Paul II certificate and girls receive a St. Teresa of Calcutta certificate. In addition, Matthew H. and Zoe M. received special recognition for their exemplary service to the St. Louise community. Both attend Riverside-Brookfield High School, where Matthew is a junior and Zoe is a sophomore. They both began serving in fifth grade, and are a great inspiration to younger servers. Congratulations and thanks to all of our servers! Youth Choirs Teen Choir SLM Teen Choir is open to high school and college students, as well as 7th and 8th graders who are also in SLM Children's Choir. The choir usually sings at 9:30 on the second Sunday of the month (with a few exceptions). We meet for donuts in the Marillac Room at 8 AM, and rehearse until the 9:30 Mass. 6 St. Rita of Cascia Grammar School All-Class & Parish Reunion The St. Rita of Cascia Grammar School Alumni Organization will be holding an all-class & parish reunion Saturday, September 8th, 2018, at St. Rita of Cascia High School, 7740 S. Western Ave. The day's event will start with a 4 p.m. concelebrated mass in the High School Shrine, followed by a reunion reception to be held on campus from 5 p.m. - midnight. Food will be provided by 115 Bourbon Street and desserts by Original Rainbow Cone ice cream, plus more, as well as an open bar for beer, wine, and soda. 8 St. Pius X Feast Day August 21st Pope Pius X is perhaps best remembered for his encouragement of the frequent reception of Holy Communion, especially by children. He also brought about the codification of Canon Law. The second of 10 children in a poor Italian family, Joseph Sarto became Pius X at age 68. He was one of the 20th century s greatest Popes. Ever mindful of his humble origin, Pope Pius stated, I was born poor, I lived poor, I will die poor. He was embarrassed by some of the pomp of the Papal Court. Look how they have dressed me up. Pope Pius encouraged Italian Catholics to become more politically involved. He ended the assumed right of the Government s interference, by veto, in Papal elections. He denounced the ill treatment of indigenous peoples on the plantations of Peru, sent relief to Messina after an earthquake, and sheltered refugees at his own expense. On the 11th anniversary of his election as Pope, Europe was plunged into World War I. Pius had foreseen it, but it killed him. He died a few weeks after the war began, and was canonized in Monday, August 20 Happy Monday!
