Recently, two bills have been introduced in the Illinois House and Senate. The first, House Bill 2495 and Senate Bill 1942, both identical pieces of legislation, seeks to strip unborn persons of any protection or even consideration under the law and declare abortion to be a "fundamental right" and matter of health care. The end result is that an abortion could be obtained at any stage of pregnancy, including late term, for any reason and without any regulation. The law would no longer guarantee any modicum of humanity or compassion for any unborn person in Illinois, even if they are partially born. This legislation also repeals the Abortion Performance Refusal Act, which protects doctors, nurses and hospitals who refuse to permit, recommend, perform or assist in abortion. In so doing, rights of conscience, especially religious objections, will be lost. As citizens of a state and people of faith who care about the common good, I urge you to join me and my brother bishops in an effort to defeat this radical departure from current law and practice in our state. This law, upheld unanimously by the Illinois Supreme Court just six years ago, has the common-sense purpose of ensuring that parents would be part of the life-altering decision of their minor child in the case she seeks an abortion. This effective law has reduced abortions performed on minors by fifty-seven percent.

John Hergenrother Adoration at St. Barbara Nocturnal Adoration April 6th Nocturnal Adoration is a tradition that began in Spain and has spread throughout Latin American countries and the United States. The mission of Nocturnal Adoration it is to guard, during the hours of the night, as Jesus contemplates the sins of the world and the sufferings He is to endure for the salvation of all. We will meet on the first Saturday of every month starting at 10:00pm and finishing with the 7:30am mass on Sunday. Saturday 1:00pm to 12:00pm and Sunday 6:00am to 7:00am will be in English. New Schedule You should receive your new server schedule this week, which goes through April 28. It includes the Easter Triduum, the most sacred time of our liturgical year. Please be sure to get subs if you are not available for a scheduled Mass or service. Youth Choirs Loyola Medical Center Candlelight Ceremony The Youth Choirs of St. Louise have been invited to participate in a candlelight ceremony in honor of organ transplants on Sunday, April 7, from noon until 2:00 PM. There will be a rehearsal on Wednesday, April 3, from 3:30-4:00 PM. Please contact Karyn Miller if you are interested in joining choir for the day. Open to St. Louise youth in grades 4-college and current choir members. Teen Choir SLM Teen Choir is open to high school and college students, as well as 7th and 8th graders who are also in SLM Children's Choir. The choir usually sings at 9:30 on the second Sunday of the month. Our next date is Palm Sunday, April 14, with the Children s Choir. We meet for donuts in the Marillac Room at 8 AM, and rehearse until the 9:30 Mass. We will also sing for the 7:00 evening service on Good Friday. If you would like to join us, contact Karyn Miller. Instrumentalists are welcome as well--we would especially welcome percussionists, guitar and ukulele players! Children's Choir It's not too late to join our Children's Choir!
