May the Risen Christ bring joy to your hearts and homes as we celebrate the promise of eternal life that is given to us. Have an Alleluia! Allelluia! kind of day. Thank you to all who prepared for and ministered at our various Holy Week liturgies. Your generous service adds to the prayer life of the parish. 2 nd Collection. The second collection for Easter is to help support the formation of the diocesan seminarians several of whom are from our immediate area. Please be generous. Religious Ed Report. Back in January, our 5 th and 8 th grade religious education students participated in the NCEA ACRE a test to measure their knowledge of the Catholic faith. As a group, our fifth grade students tested at 76%--15% higher than the national averages for parishes and 3% higher than Catholic grade schools. The following students are commended for their advanced knowledge of the Catholic faith: Abby Bloemer, Claire Bushur, Abigail Cothran, Charis Coventry, Mitchell Hardiek, Samuel Kingery, and Olivia Niemerg. This might point out the importance of having religion classes five times a week. The eighth grade tested at 67%--4% lower than the national average. Advanced students at this level included Jamie Sandschafer, Lauren Siemer, Maria Vonderheide, Audra Breer, and Lauren Ozenkoski. The 11 th grade also participated in the ACRE test. While it was a relatively small sample (only 22 students), the group tested at 73% (compared to the national average of 67%). The advanced students were Elena Breer, Maria Esker, Eddie Siemer, Michaela Vahling, and Allison Vogt. This is, perhaps, the appropriate time to remind the parents that they are the primary teachers of the faith to their children. By word and example, please help your children daily grow in their understanding of and appreciation for our beautiful Catholic faith. Heading South. I am scheduled to be in San Antonio, TX, for meetings from April 1 5. I will drive to St. Louis on Easter to travel with a couple of other friars to TX. There wasn t enough time to book a flight out of T-Town International. I ll get back home sometime on the 5 th. ACSA. The latest ACSA report, dated March 7, indicates that 28.8% of our parish households have pledged. Total pledges equal $46,285 about 72% of our assigned goal. 98.8% of the pledges have already been paid. Unless some of the other 830 parish households get on board and make a pledge, we ll have to dig into the parish account and send about $17,000 to the diocese. 40 Days For Life reports that there were 554 babies saved during this past international Lenten campaign! Thanks to all who participated in any way with extra prayers and sacrifice, and a special thank you to all who participated in our Day of Eucharistic Adoration and Prayer on March 22nd. When we labor against abortion, we are to think of the day when we will have the rest and peace of the final triumph of life. Father, you are the God of hope. As we struggle against the culture of death, root our souls in the assurance of victory. We pray through Christ our Lord, Amen. -(Fr. Frank Pavone) Pro-Life Action. Under the new health care law, the Obama administration will require most health plans to cover preventative services for women, including services that many citizens find objectionable for moral and religious reasons. These objectionable services include sterilization, FDA-approved birth control (such as the IUD, implantable drugs, morning-after pills, and the abortion-inducing drug, Ella), and education and counseling to promote these to all women of reproductive capacity, including minor girls. The mandate allows only a very narrow exemption for a religious employer. There is no exemption or delay for individuals, for prolife organizations that are not explicitly religious, or for businesses owned and operated by individuals with moral or religious objections. Spiritual Renewal in the Year of Faith Have fun making new friends by attending a De Colores weekend at rustic Camp Walter Scott just south of Effingham. Deepen your faith by listening to inspiring talks, participating in the Sacraments, and learning about God s mission for your life. This three-day experience will emphasize piety, study and action with a biblical foundation. The men s weekend is April and will be led by Rick Siemer (ph # ).
