We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, "Do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5). May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary's most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother's own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. He will preside at the 10:30 Mass and invites all parish members to join him for fellowship in the gym after the liturgy. The Growing Church. We congratulate and welcome Beth Heuerman who today enters into full communion with the Catholic Church through her Profession of Faith. Beth, may you be blessed by your membership in the Church, and may the parish be blessed through your presence. Bread for the World. Bread for the World is an agency that works to combat world hunger. Each fall, they ask parishes throughout the country to take up a special collection. Today, we will take up a collection for Bread for the World. Please help. Priesthood Sunday. Among the other events for October 28, today has been designated as Priesthood Sunday. Please pray for priests here and throughout the world. At the same time, ask the Harvest Master to call more laborers to work in the Vineyard. All Saints. Looking ahead, please remember that All Saints day is November 1. This is a holy day of obligation. Masses will be at 7:00 for the Vigil (Oct. 31), 6:00 a.m., 8:05 a.m. (with school students), and 5:30 p.m. Please note the earlier start time for the evening Mass on the holy day. We hope that this will allow more parish members to participate. Please note: because of the holy day, there will be no Mass at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday. All Souls. All Souls Day, November 2, is the day we traditionally dedicate to prayer for our departed sisters and brothers. Please take time to join us for Mass, 6:30 or 8:05 a.m. Mass of Remembrance. Our annual Mass of Remembrance is slated for Sunday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. that day, there will be a memorial service at the cemetery. Forming Consciences. Every four years prior to the presidential elections, the US Catholic bishops publish an updated version of their document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. That document is available on the USCCB website. Alternatively, I have prepared a summary of that document and placed it in church. By the time you read this, the summary should also be available on our parish website. Please read what the bishops have to say before you cast your vote in the upcoming election. Year of Faith. The new Year of Faith officially began on Thursday, October 11. This Year marks the 50 th anniversary of the start of Vatican II and the 20 th anniversary of the publication of the new Catholic Catechism. The theme of the year is New Evangelization. Each one of us is called to deepen our commitment to the Faith and to call others to join us. We are urged, also, to review the documents of Vatican II and to spend time studying the Catechism. One of the early slogans of the Church was faith seeking understanding. During the coming months, we pray for the grace of a deeper faith and we study to more fully understand the Catholic Faith. Collections Revisited. The Franciscan friars recently had a discussion to determine how they would financially support the various parishes in which we serve. We decided to donate a half-tithe (5%) of our salaries back to the parishes and to ACSA. We will donate $1000 to ACSA ($550 for SFA, $150 for St. Rose, and $300 to the parishes served by Fr. Joe Carlos). We also agreed to contribute to the local parish collections: SFA ($2350 per year), SR (940 per year), and St. Isidore ($1410 per year). As in the past, we will continue to make significant contributions to Sacred Heart Province. We thought you should know. Fall Back. We go off daylight saving time on Sunday, November 4. A second session on the same topic is held on Tuesday evenings in the Museum Meeting Room at 7:00 p.m. There are no commitments, no pressure, just a desire to know more about the Catholic Church and its teachings. Next week s topic: Do Catholics worship images? Bible Study Our next session will be on Thursday, November 1 st at 10:00 a.m. in St. Clare Hall. Because of the length of the film, we will be viewing the 2 nd half on Thursday, November 8 th. There is no need to sign up for these sessions. Just come join us. Bring your lunch and join the conversation after the film. Our next great woman: Bakhita. Protecting God s Children training will be Monday, November 12 th, in St. Clare Hall from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Members of the CCW are invited to attend. Anyone is welcome. Confirmation Practice for sophomores and their sponsors is scheduled for November 14 beginning at 6:30 pm in the church. Please be sure you have your book, journal and confirmation hours turned in. The Teutopolis Area CHWC Crew is sponsoring a 5K fun run on November 4th, 2012 at the Teutopolis Junior High Park. Registration will begin at 12:30pm and the run starts at 1:00 pm. The cross country course will be the course used. All proceeds will go to Catholic Heart Work Camp Crew. The cost is $5.00 per person with a $20.00 max for a family. Psalm 130: 1-8 Never can we say that this fight over abortion is not about life and death. Yes for the life of the baby, but let us not forget the life of the women and others involved. Only God has the ability to mark iniquities and He gives forgiveness. Thank you Lord for the forgiveness that you have given all of us, and now please give it to all who are touched by abortion. Lord, as a nation redeem us from this sin of abortion. Help us pray and fast in a way that you will hear us. Help us be the watchmen that You are calling us to be. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Effingham K of C will host a major degree initiation on Sunday, Nov. 4. They are also hosting an information and sign up meeting for the formation of a Columbian Squires Circle on Nov. 3 at 6:30 pm.
