St. Joseph accepted your will and worked with Jesus as his father and teacher. We seek your blessing upon all the work of our hands, and we dedicate our work to your greater glory. We ask your blessing upon all workers, especially those who work to make our lives easier and more enjoyable. We ask all this through the intercession of St. Joseph, patron saint of workers, in the name of Jesus your Son, in the unity of Holy Spirit. Amen. St. Joseph the Worker, pray for us. A World of Neighbors Show no partiality For if a man with gold rings and fine clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes, have you not made distinctions among yourselves? James 2:1-4 This passage is a pretty clear indictment of favoring the rich. But it also discourages making other distinctions. Most of us are guilty of this in one way or another. We feel more comfortable with our own kind, whether we share economic status, ethnicity or political views. But if we stick with those who do not challenge us, who make us feel normal and comfortable, we might start to believe that everyone should be like us. God made a more diverse world than that. He is present in all people. By opening our hearts to God s activity in those who differ from us, we open ourselves to him. What s more, we acknowledge a gospel truth that all human beings are our neighbors. Loving God, open my heart to your presence in people who are different from me. Ask a Sister/Friar what is the charism of their Congregation Memorial Service for Aborted Children On Saturday, September 12, pro-life Americans throughout the country will gather at the gravesites of aborted babies and other memorial sites dedicated in their honor for the second annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children. Solemn prayer services will be held at these sites to commemorate the more than 55 million children who have lost their lives to legal abortion since 1973, and to remind our society of the humanity of the unborn child. Our Catholic Heart Work Camp Crew is gearing up for DENVER, CO, June 11-18, We will be doing home restoration, landscaping, working with the poor, working with the elderly, working at homeless shelters and soup kitchens and food pantries. In the evenings, we will be learning more about the faith and praising God in all things! Students who are current freshmen through 20 years of age are welcome to be participants in the camp. Adults 21 and older who have taken Protecting God s Children, who will share the fun of faith with students, and who are ready to jump in with both feet are invited to come chaperon! It will be a blessed trip! Our informational meeting will be held on September 15 at 7 pm in the Museum Dining Room with forms being due back by October 1. Things to think about before the meeting: How do I serve those who need me where I am now? What do I hope to get out of the CHWC experience? We can t wait to serve with you! Youth Notes. The National Catholic Youth Conference will be held in Indianapolis, IN, November All high school students are welcome to attend this event of learning more about our faith! NCYC forms are available on the parish website under What s Happening and are due back by September 12, Cost of the trip is just $100, and this includes your registration, hotel accommodations, and transportation. Call the High School Religious Ed office for more information! Junior High Teen Center will start on September 18 and run from 7 pm 10 pm. Parents, if you have taken Protecting God s Children and would be willing to chaperon, please give us a call at the High School Religious Ed office ( ). Religious Education News Grade School. 2H will be viewing the Personal Safety Video on Wednesday, September 9, in room 2H 2J will view the Guardian Angel video on the East ramp Gr. 2C will view Brother Francis Teaches Us to Pray in Rm. 2C. Thanks to Sister Pierre for facilitating the viewing and discussion of the Personal Safety video. Parents are welcome to view the videos with their child s class. Classrooms 6C, H, and W will be visited by Mrs. Elaine Vonderheide on Tuesday morning, September 8, recruiting students for helping with the Search program one Saturday a month throughout the year. Students will be given a brochure explaining the program and a sign-up sheet, which needs to be returned as soon as possible. The first Search class will take place on October 3. Tuesday morning, September 8, is the birthday of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Grade 1 will celebrate her birthday outdoors (weather permitting) in front of the Lourdes grotto in front of school, with singing, story-telling, and refreshments. Thanks to all the Grade 1 catechists and helpers for making this day special. Junior High. Classes begin on Wednesday, September 9, at 7:20, at the Junior High Building, for parents and students. Parents should accompany students to their assigned rooms (listed on the classroom doors) and remain present for the first l0 minutes of class then proceed to the cafeteria for further input and information regarding this religious education year and how they can be of help and assistance in the religious education of their teenage youth. God bless all students, catechists, helpers, parents, as we embark on this catechetical ministry in Pope Francis designation as this the Year of the Family and the Year of Mercy. Pre-K. Classes begin on October 11, during the 10:30 Mass in the Museum Dining Room for pre school children of 4 years of age and kindergarten children 5 years of age by September 1. More information will be forthcoming. HS Religious Ed. Freshmen and their parents Confirmation Orientation Meeting is scheduled for September 16 in the TGS cafeteria beginning at 7:30 pm. All are asked to attend this meeting to learn more about the preparation for this awesome sacrament! All high school religious ed classes will begin on September 23. Students are asked to report to the TGS Gym for prayer, classroom assignments, and orientation. Classes run from 7:20-8:30 pm each Wednesday night at TGS. We can t wait to kick off another fantastic year of religious ed! Sophomore Confirmation Updates: Sophomore Retreat is Saturday, October 17, from 8:15 am 4 pm. The day starts with service projects around the area, and then we gather back at noon for processing the day and the preparation that has been accomplished for this sacrament! Practice for Confirmation will be held on November 18 from 6:30 pm 8:30 pm. Students and their sponsor are asked to attend this practice (parents, you are welcome also, if you d like to come!). Confirmation Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 2, at 6:30 pm at St. Francis Church.

5 September 6, rd Sunday in Ordinary Time page 5 ADULT FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITY VATICAN II AND THE CHURCH OF THE THIRD MILLENNIUM PART 1 A DVD series featuring Dr. Richard R. Gaillardetz, Ph.D., professor of theology at Boston College, will be presented at St. Anthony High School, beginning Sept. 15. This series gives an overview of the history of the Catholic Church leading up to the Second Vatican Council as well as what the council offers the future of the church. Part 2 will be offered in the spring. The time and dates for Part 1 are six Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., beginning September 15 and running through October 20. These will be held at St. Anthony High School, room 101. Materials will be provided, so reservations are requested but not required. Please call the parish office at to make reservations. Easy, no. where there is darkness, light As we continue our reflections on our recent Parish Mission, we are struck by those who suffer darkness: immigrants being beaten back from another country s border, children left and forgotten in the summer heat of a car, an overheard conversation about oneself by fellow co-workers, and the list goes on. It seems as if the darkness is winning some days. There is hope and there is joy, but we must look for it sometimes. Sometimes we must be it! I can t change the problem of immigration, but I can let my voice be heard by politicians who can. I can t change poor choices that are made whether out of ignorance or fear or deliberate acts, but I can educate others on better choices to be made. I can t change that a negative conversation about oneself was heard in the workplace, but I can support the person hearing it, and point out all the wonderful qualities that person has and the positive contributions made. I cannot participate in such conversations myself. What can we do this week to bring light to someone? It s not tough. Give a smile, engage in a positive, uplifting conversation, invite someone to share a cup of tea (bottle of beer?). You can think of many more. Let s be LIGHTS!! He was met at the front gate by St. Peter, who led him on a house tour down the golden streets. The church teaches about social justice in a wide variety of topics--labor, housing, health care, and racism, just to name a few. Is there an area the church needs to focus on more today? A. There are many ways to measure the size and scope of problems. The cost of the injustice, or how difficult or costly it is to fix, or the number of people affected, or the impact on innocent lives are all valid ways to determine what areas are priorities and where one's attention should be focused. Many of these arguments are used in political debate, especially before an election. But the biggest problem facing the church, as a community of faith and as an institution, is not a specific problem, but a social attitude. For many reasons, our society has grown indifferent to human suffering. People are no longer affected or outraged when others are killed, children are starving, or disease is left unchecked. People have their own problems and are often so busy that they do not have the time or energy left to focus attention on the needs of others. Our lack of concern or our feeling of powerlessness allows the evil of human suffering to continue without resistance. There is no hope, no promise of tomorrow, no sense that something can be done to help others in need. But we can do something, as faith tells us. No problem is bigger than God. When each of us does our part, even in a small way, the world is a better place for everyone. Never underestimate the power one person has to make a difference Liturgical Publications Inc The Teutopolis Park District will be presenting the movie "Big Hero 6" on Saturday, September 12th, at the Teutopolis Community Park. The fun will begin at 7 p.m. with hot dogs, popcorn, and bottled water (while it lasts). The movie will begin at dusk. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. There will be designated areas for both (blankets in front, chairs in back) so everyone can see. Everything is FREE!!!... It's their way of saying "Thank You" to the Teutopolis Community, especially those who participate in their programs. American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 1:30 6:30 pm at the at the Teutopolis K of C Hall.
