The August mailing from the diocese announced that Catholic Relief Services will be offering webcasts on global poverty. The mailing provided dates, but no specific times. I encourage the parish members to check out for further information. August 29: Confronting Global Poverty as Faithful Citizens September 26: Faithful Citizenship Beyond the Election October 17: Pursuing Peace and Stability for the People of the Democratic Republic of Congo (our province used to have missionaries in the DRC) Faithful Citizenship. Every four years, just before the national elections, the USCCB publishes a document entitled Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. This document is the bishops effort to remind Catholic voters of some of the key issues that should be considered before going to the polls to vote. This is important material for every Catholic of voting age. If you go to the USCCB website, you can get a PDF version of the document for download and printing. If we have a current events discussion group in the parish, this would be appropriate material. While the general tenor of the document has remained the same over the years, the issues change. In just the past few years, for instance, we have been faced with the relatively new issues of stem cell research, genetic engineering, gay marriage, and a threat to religious freedom which have been added to the perenniallyimportant issues of abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, the economy, and human dignity and rights. Directory as Prayer Book. Thanks to our directory coordinators, our parish participants, and the folks at Lifetouch, we have a beautiful new parish picture directory. I suggest that this book can be used for more than simply trying to figure out who s who and for putting names with faces. Please consider using the directory as a form of prayer. From time to time (preferably daily!), pull out the directory, open it up, and offer prayers for each individual or family on the page. Not only does this help build parish awareness and unity, but it also adds to the power of prayer in the lives of our sisters and brothers. Reminder. I will be attending a Provincial Council meeting August I should be back by the evening of 8/31. Thank You. A parishioner has donated $5,000 worth of stock and asked it to be used toward the new sign. First Saturday of the Month Mass and Devotion at St. Anthony Parish During Our Lady s third apparition at Fatima she requested the following: My daughter, look at my Heart surrounded with the thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me constantly through blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console me, and tell people that I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all graces necessary for salvation all those, who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months: Go to Confession (8 days before or after), receive Holy Communion, pray 5 decades of the rosary, and meditate on one or more of the mysteries for 15 minutes. Beginning the first Saturday in September we will be answering our Blessed Mother s request. We will begin with the rosary at 6:10am, Mass at 6:30am and finish with guided meditations from 7:00-7:15am at St. Anthony Church. Prayer meditation cards will be available. ALL WELCOME! Any questions please contact Tessie Kabbes Have You Been Divorced? A workshop, DIVORCE AND BEYOND, is being offered for anyone who has experienced divorce. This workshop is for anyone who is legally divorced regardless of religious affiliation. The workshop is to help and support people beyond the experience of divorce. The workshop consists of eight sessions with topics that include such items as: The process of divorce, positive self image after divorce, handling stress, expressing anger and dealing with blame and guilt, children, finances, pathways to growth. The sessions will be held on Thursday evenings beginning on September 6th. The sessions will last from 6:45pm 8:45pm. Registration is NECESSARY. The children s Choir is open to 4th, 5th and 6th graders and practices will be after school on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 in the choir loft. The choir will be learning the fundamentals of singing and also learning more about the Mass and the celebration of the Eucharist. The choir will be singing on selected Friday Masses at 8:05 in the choir loft, and will be singing once a month at a Sunday Mass. Sign-up sheets went home with the school kids this week. This season s sessions are based on a series of videos: Women of Faith. We will be watching videos on the lives of Mary Magdalene, Gianna Molla, Hildegard of Bingen and Bakita. Most of these are newly canonized saints by Pope John Paul II. Join us as we watch and discuss the life and times of some awesome women. The title of the presentation is Teaching During The Year of Faith and will take one hour. Whether we are a first-time catechist or experienced, we can all learn something new and be updated. Teutopolis Park District will be offering Boot Camp and Zumba Classes!!! Boot Camp will run a 12 week session starting September 5th in the TGS Gym. Zumba will run a 6 week session in the TJHS Café starting September 5th. Classes run each Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 5:15-6:15am. The Teutopolis Park District will be presenting the movie The Lorax on Saturday September 22nd at the Teutopolis Community Park. The fun will begin at 7:00pm with hotdogs, popcorn and soda (while they last). The movie will begin at dusk. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. There will be designated area for both (blankets in front, chairs in back) so everyone can see. This will be a professional presentation by Fluid Events from Champaign, IL. EVERYTHING IS FREE!!!
