But the man Jesus invited was rich, and his wealth prevented him from doing what Jesus asked This gospel story prompts us to ask if there is something that keeps us from following Jesus Perhaps Jesus asks us to let go of our anger or our fear or our selfishness These are all things that would keep us from following him with free and loving minds and hearts The rich man refused Jesus invitation and so lost the chance to change his life Of course, it would have been hard for him to give up his wealth, just as it may be hard for us to give up our particular attachments But Jesus tells us in this gospel that what is impossible for us, is possible for God Lord, I trust in your power to help me follow you as you 40 Days For Life 123 babies verified as saved from abortion thus far in the 40 Days for Life fall campaign! Please continue to offer extra Masses, rosaries, prayers, and sacrifices through November 1st for the intention to end abortion! A BIG thank you to all the youth who helped with the Walk to Remember at the Jr High park last Sunday They were really impressed with everyone that showed up and wanted to say THANK YOU They are looking forward to seeing many of you next year who said you would like to come back and help again Service Opportunity The Teutopolis Knights of Columbus are sponsoring the MR Breakfast on October 18 and would appreciate help cleaning off tables and helping kids through line High School students were asked to sign up at class this past Wednesday if they were available to work a shift If your student has NOT signed up for this service opportunity and you would like them to, please call the high school religious ed office to get them signed up Art and Environment The Art and Environment committee will have a meeting on October 26th, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the Museum Dining Room Plans will be made for decorating the church for the upcoming holidays If you cannot attend, please contact Mary Flach at Thank you Youth Notes Jr High Are you ready for some scary fun? 5 October 11, th Sunday in Ordinary Time page 5 Calendars Available 2010 Catholic calendars are available at all the entrances of church A gift from your parish to you Take one home with you Holy Humor Mother Teresa died and went to heaven God greeted her at the Pearly Gates Be thou hungry, Mother Teresa? asked God I could eat, Mother Teresa replied So God opened a can of tuna and reached for a chunk of rye bread, and they began to share it While eating this humble meal, Mother Teresa looked down into hell and saw the inhabitants devouring huge steaks, lobsters and pastries Curious but deeply trusting, she remained quiet The next day God again invited her to join Him for a meal Again, it was tuna and rye bread Once again, Mother Teresa could see the denizens of hell enjoying lamb, turkey and delicious desserts Still she said nothing The following day, mealtime arrived and another can of tuna was opened She couldn t contain herself any longer Meekly, she asked, God, I am grateful to be in heaven with you But here in heaven all I get to eat is tuna and a piece of rye bread, and in the Other Place, they eat like emperors and kings!
