LARGE PRINT hymnals, bulletins and Bibles are readily available; please ask an usher if you need help finding one. For those with children: We are glad you are here! There is a children s cart with Children s Worship Bulletins and Activity Bags which include crayons. The bulletins contain activities and coloring sheets that match the sermon and scripture. We love to have the children stay in worship (wiggles and giggles are welcomed and sacred sounds). Yet, if you would like your child to attend the nursery (birth-5), it is staffed with Safe Sanctuary trained individuals. Mission/Service Opportunities The Hospitality ministry is looking for new volunteers. Our Hospitality ministry is an on-going service each Monday through Friday, 9am to 12 noon and 12 noon to 3pm. We greet and help visitors, sign for UPS deliveries, answer the phone and direct calls -- all from our station in the Narthex. Don't worry, you'll be shown how to do these easy tasks! Our volunteers usually average only 2 shifts per month. If you are interested please contact Debbie Hegeman at Our BTW (Beyond These Walls) groups serving the Sanctuary House and Francis Center will now be making on-site visits on the 4th Sunday of each month instead of the 3 rd. We welcome anyone interested in helping serve the evening meal to people experiencing homelessnes. Please sign up for any month you can help. Questions about our visits, please contact Sue Golembeski at Fellowship Opportunities Saving Jesus?!?! Ever feel like Jesus has been kidnapped by the Christian Right and discarded by the Secular Left? The Sunday Adult Forum (9-10 AM) is beginning a 12 week DVD based study of the life of Jesus. Each session combines an educational video with group discussion and is self-contained so attendance at all sessions is valuable, but not necessary. Please consider joining with us. Tom Deever Children s Ministry is hosting an afternoon of Family Sledding on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00pm. A sign-up sheet with details is on the CMT bulletin board. SAVE THE DATE! Join us and Pair Up with God on February 10 after the 2 nd service for our church wide Winter Carnival. Enjoy games, crafts, Cake Walk, food, fellowship and FUN for EVERYONE! Heart Listening is a group that meets Friday mornings from 10:30am - 12:00noon for fellowship, spiritual nourishment, and discussion. We will be reading Boundless Compassion by Joyce Rupp for our next book, and welcome new members. Learning Opportunities Are you interested in working with children and youth here at FUMC? Because we are called by God to make our church a safe place for everyone, we especially want to protect children and vulnerable adults from any form of abuse. General Announcements UMW is hosting a Blood Drive with the Red Cross on February 8th from 1:00-6:00. You can go to the Red Cross web site to register, we will also take walk-ins on the day of the event. There is always a need for blood in our community. I hope you will consider donating. GATHERING TOGETHER IN GOD S PRESENCE As the congregation gathers, please take a moment to speak to people sitting around you whom you may not know. Hebrews 13:2 says, Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! In the beauty of this moment we come to worship our God. God is with us always and calls us each by name. When we pass through difficulties and stress, God is with us and calls us by name. When we are discouraged and feel lost and alone, God is with us and calls us by name, and heals us. 7 LEARNING TAKE HOME SHEET Notes Prayer for the week: Your word of light and hope floods into our lives, O God. We have lived in darkness, in despair and fear, doubt and strife. But on this day of celebration, you remind us that we are marked by you to be witnesses to your light of new hope. As the heavens opened at Jesus' baptism, so is your love poured out on us. Help us to be people who are ready to be involved in ministries of peace and justice, bringing the light of your hope to those who dwell in darkness and despair. We ask this in Jesus' Name, Amen.
