6 ANNOUNCEMENTS World Communion Sunday Today World Communion Sunday is an annual celebration observed by several Christian denominations, taking place on the first Sunday of every October. World Communion Sunday is a time of profound Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation, marked by our shared celebration of the Lord s Supper. Jesus instituted the first such meal, and World Communion Sunday is a helpful way in which Christ calls us back together to celebrate the liturgy in remembrance of me. In the United Methodist Church, World Communion Sunday is also designated as one of the five Sundays observed with the taking of a special offering throughout the denomination. The observance focuses the attention of United Methodists on the universal and inclusive nature of the church. One half of the proceeds from the offering is for World Communion Sunday Scholars administered by the General Board of Global Ministries. The remaining half is to be used for the Ethnic Scholarship Program and the Ethnic In- Service Training Program, which are administered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. If you would like to give a World Communion Sunday special gift to help equip disciples, you may do so by writing World Communion Sunday on the memo line of your check or you can give online using the provided QR Code.
