2 28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Pastor s Message Dear Parishioners, Jesus tells us that the world is wrong. Our treasure is not here, it is in the world to come. The world tells us to spend our money on ourselves. Jesus tells us how hard it is for the rich to go to heaven. If we spend all our money on ourselves, than we are no better than the rich. This weekend we are talking about the Stewardship of Treasure. Tithing gets rid of selfishness. The proof that we are focused on God is that we tithe to him. The tithe is the first ten percent of our income before taxes. God is first and not the world. As the people of God we pay tribute to God. Our monetary offering needs to be precious and worthy. First fruits are what are precious and they are given to God. Humbly bringing that gift when we come to the Mass is what makes it a worthy gift. This is what makes money holy. The two requirements for holiness are preciousness and worthiness. When these two are brought together then our gift is a holy gift. God is placed first and the world second. Selflesness gives way to Christ like giving and we do not suffer the fate of the rich. Please come to Mass next weekend to make a holy gift to God from our treasure. Keep in mind that many second collections come out of this gift. Keep also in mind the many fundraisers we do not do in favor of focusing on building our parish community. Our giving will become Eucharistic. We give to God and God gives of himself in the Eucharist. Your generous response now keeps our pulpit focused on the Gospel and not on continuous money talks. You keep your part of the bargain and I will keep mine. May God bless the discernment of our future charity. Andrew spoke to our parish family about stewardship and his recent letter regarding Stewardship of Treasure weekends. This week and the next weeks we invite you to reflect on the gifts you have received and pray about how God wants you to use these gifts to share in His work in our parish. In the coming days, all registered households will receive a second letter inviting their participation in this important effort that will help improve St. Vincent s future and the quality of pastoral life. Together we can work to advance our mission to go and make disciples, by sharing the gifts God has granted us. We welcome you to join us in joyfully supporting Stewardship of Treasure. As we continue to pray for the continued building relationships between our parish and school community, you are invited to share an hour in the presence of the Lord to receive his many graces. We expose the Blessed Sacrament and experience silence with a little light music at the opening and closing. The Sacrament of reconciliation will be available along with childcare provided in the garden room childcare drop off begins at 3:30pm. We also offer this hour for the furthering of the cause of Servant of God Julia Greeley to be the first Saint of Denver. 6 Stewardship of Time & Talent (Continued) LITURGY & LOGISTICS MASS & RE-MANDATION EMHCs Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must attend a Mandation Workshop to be re-mandated for the next four years. SVdP will host a workshop on Saturday, October 13th after the 8am Mass. A substantial breakfast will be provided after Mass and before the workshop. For those unable to attend, a makeup workshop will be offered by the Archdiocese on Saturday, October 27th from 9am-11am at the St. John Paul II Center for the New Evangelization, Room 123, 1300 S Steele St, Denver (no substantial breakfast provided). EMHCs, Lectors and Ushers Please join us Saturday, October 13th after the 8am Mass and a substantial breakfast provided by the parish to learn about our new ministry scheduling software. This program allows you to provide scheduling preferences and dates you are available. Basically the software will give you a schedule of exactly what you asked for even the ability to schedule families together. This will lead to greater commitment and fewer no shows. The software will send reminders and in case you need a sub, it will automatically send an to the others allowing them to click a link to cover for you. 7 Catholic Events Resources 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time What is it that causes a tiny baby to finally cease clinging to the womb and surrender? Well, it has to do with immune cells which, after doing their work of cleaning out the lungs, migrate to the uterine wall, where a chemical is released that stimulates an inflammatory response that starts labor. The baby, after 40 weeks of nurture from mom, must now surrender to the momentum of the uterus contracting. Soon, the baby will be flushed out of the womb and into the joyous arms of parents, who vow to continue that nurture all the days of their lives. The baby doesn t know that at the time, of course. The baby must do the heroic thing of being born, trustful or not. And death is the same way. Each of us somehow mustered the courage to be born, and each of us will find the courage to die, ready or not. We will be swept away from what we know into the Great Unknowable. God will be there to guide us. The rich young man did everything right. He followed the Law, and he gave generously to the poor. But he wasn t ready to die yet, and so he couldn t live. Like the baby in the womb, everything he knew and trusted was right there. But when the contractions began-those pesky questions he needed to ask Jesus so that he could have some peace about his eternal future-he resisted the answer he heard.
