Where did it come from? Answer: The conclusion of the Lord s Prayer that you refer to is called a doxology, which is a prayer of glory and praise. This particular doxology we do use in the Mass. After the Our Father, the priest prays the prayer that begins, Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil... and the people respond with the doxology. The doxology is not found in the Bible, in either Matthew 6:9-13 or Luke 11: 2-4, but it is very ancient. It was first found in The Didache, also called The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, which dates probably from about the year AD 90. It was a letter of instruction to early converts to Christianity. Protestantism dates only to the sixteenth century, so the doxology is actually a Catholic prayer. Some scholars and the catechism ( 2760) indicate that the doxology was connected to the celebration of the Eucharist and was not used apart from it. Remember, both the Lord s Prayer and the Eucharist were part of the mysteries of faith, things taught only to believers. Ironically, a remnant of a prayer used during the celebration of the Eucharist has comes to be used widely by many Christian churches that do not celebrate the Eucharist! Truth is indeed stranger than fiction! 2013 Liturgical Publications Inc Please remember to be neighborhood friendly when parking for events at Saint Vincent de Paul Parish. Feel free to invite others to come and enjoy the healing touch of our Lord. Extend your mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us? Saint Vincent de Paul Prayer in the Square Saturday, July 1st Come pray for the sanctity of human life and for an end to the persecution of Christians worldwide. Our rosary begins at 8:30 am following the 8:00 am mass. Please join us at the Ten Commandments Monument located on our parish grounds. We will meet on the following Saturdays: July 1st August 5 September 2nd October 7th November 4th December 2nd Learning about our Saints and Reliquaries Why do we need to venerate the saints? The Church invites and encourages the faithful to honor the saints by venerating their relics and images. They have always been a significant part of the life of the Church. Since the fourth century, relics were deposited in the altars of the Church during their dedication. Veneration is the honor we give to the saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary. Contrary to what other Christians and non-christians believe, when we venerate the saints, we do not worship them. There is an essential difference between the divine worship (latria) owed to God and the veneration (dulia) paid to the saints. The honor given to the relics of saints and to their images does not detract from the worship given to God. By honoring the saints, their relics and images, one honors God from whom comes all holiness. The Council of Trent (1563) defended the Christian practice of invoking the prayers of the saints and venerating their relics and burial places. The Church, however, absolutely forbids the selling of sacred relics which are generally accompanied by proper documentation attesting to its authenticity. There are three classes of relics. A first-class relic is a part of the saint s body (this is the part inserted in the altar). A second-class relic is a piece of the saint s clothing or something used by the saint. A third-class relic is an object which has been touched to a first-class relic. So if your rosary, medal, or holy card has touched a first-class relic, you now have custody of a third-class relic! from Mila Glodava s Blog - October 15,

The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matthew 9:37 Radical Awareness of Discipleship (RAD) RAD is a gathering of high school age men who are open to following Jesus Christ as Catholic priests. Events are sponsored by the Office of Priestly Vocations of the Archdiocese of Denver and led by Vocations Director, Fr. Ryan O Neill, and seminarians of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. Retreats include: Prayer, Mass, Small group discussions, Opportunity for Question & Answer with Archbishop Aquila or seminarians, Sports, Food, and Friendship All RAD Retreats are free! Retreats are held at St. John Vianney Seminary at: 1300 South Steele St., Denver, Vocation Chalice We need good, holy priests to bring us the Eucharist. Therefore the purpose of our program is to pray for priests and priestly vocations every day. The chalice is the sacred cup that the priest uses at Mass in which the Precious Blood of Jesus is consecrated then given to the faithful. We hope through our efforts and God s grace that this spiritual devotion will plant the seed of a priestly vocation in many young men. Host for the week of June 11th is the: Luebbers Family Sign up, in the back of the church, to host the Vocation Chalice at your home!! Importance of Praying for Vocation Prayers for vocations are for more men and women to dedicate themselves to serving our Lord and His flock in the religious life. Now more than ever, in these difficult times, the world needs heroes, as the New York Archdiocese s Office of Vocations puts it. Our police and firemen are considered heroes when they save lives. Why not also think of our priests that way when they do so much to save souls? As Christ once said, in sending out His disciples in ministry, the harvest is great but the laborers are few (Matt 9:37). We offer these prayers for vocations to help send more laborers to bring our Lord an abundant crop of people whose lives have been transformed by the graces they receive from our faith! from CatholicPrayers.com website

7 Catholic Events and Resources SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY It was really just a teeny fender bender. I was pulling out onto the highway from the ramp, and then I wasn t. (Right now you might be thinking how much you hate it when drivers give every indication that they are moving out and then don t.) So, yeah, he bumped into me. Furious, he jumped out of his truck and ran over to my car, screaming in frustration. A few expletives later and he was on his phone, calling the police. Then I asked him who he thought would get the ticket. I know, he said. I m getting the ticket. I bumped into you. Since neither of our cars was damaged, I asked if he couldn t just call back and say we settled things and were moving on, since we were blocking the ramp. No, he said, much calmer now, it s the law. I need to report this. While the officer collected our information I asked him by now we were addressing each other by our first names if I couldn t just tell the officer that I didn t want to see him get a ticket since he was going SO SLOWLY when he hit me that neither of us had any damage and neither of us was hurt. You would do that? he asked. It was so easy. The officer agreed that it was so very minor no ticket need to be given. And the guy who had been screaming at me minutes earlier said, Kathy, I m sorry. And two strangers hugged on the ramp and moved on to have, indeed, a very nice day. Agree with one another; live in peace then the God of love and peace will be with you. What opportunities did you take this week to bring peace to your world? Kathy McGovern Parish Access Code: XFTDNJ for Formed.org Though prayer is one of the essentials of a thriving faith, we often feel as if we re talking to ourselves or, worse, as if we re talking to no one at all. How can something so vital to the Faith be so elusive? Now, with the clear teaching and artistry of the Augustine Institutes s Lectio series, Dr. Tim Gray masterfully uses the discipline of Lectio Divina to show you how to make prayer an effective effort of love and intimacy. In six video sessions, Prayer: Finding Intimacy with God captures the secret to opening our hearts and minds to Scripture as the means to hear from God and then respond in conversation, basking in his presence and resolving to live in and through his love. Engaging and accessible, Prayer: Finding Intimacy With God includes: The Lectio Divina approach of Reading, Reflecting, Responding, and Contemplating Penetrating questions and insights for the six video sessions Additional resources for a fuller understanding and application Daily reflections to deepen the meaning of prayer in your life Space for personal journaling Catholic Homeschool Conference Thursday, June 29th - 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm The IHM Colorado Homeschool Conference will be held at St. Mary Catholic Parish, 6853 S.
