Our parents and grandparents used to say to us, Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. You have to work at it. Anything of substance and value requires patience, effort, and careful planning. If it were easy to do, there would not be much value in it. Maybe it took years to learn, but there comes a point where experience teaches what our stubbornness refused. Easy come, easy go! Jesus says the same thing about faith. Our journey of faith begins in baptism. When we are faithful to it, we find God s plan for us, his way of allowing us to participate in his saving work, which in turn becomes for us our own salvation. Stated simply, we share in the mission of Jesus each day. We live our life with all of its ups, downs, joys and sorrows in union with the mission of Jesus. Our work then is holy. It is joined to the cross, God s will for Jesus, the way in which he destroys sin and death and makes eternal life possible. His sacrifice accomplishes what we ourselves cannot do. To take up the cross, then, means that we share in the mission of Jesus and so embrace the sufferings of the cross. It is our daily life made holy, given a redemptive mission. It is our purpose and goal to unite our life to that of Christ. St. Paul says it best, If we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection (Rom 6:5) Liturgical Publications Inc Our ill parish members & relatives: Pat Maestas Our deceased parish members & relatives: Veterans and deceased members of our Armed Forces who serve selflessly to protect our way of life. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us? Saint Vincent de Paul Learning about our Saints and Reliquaries What is a 1st Class Relic? There are three classes of relics: A first-class relic is a part of the saint s body (this is the part inserted in the altar). A second-class relic is a piece of the saint s clothing or something used by the saint. A third-class relic is an object which has been touched to a firstclass relic. So if your rosary, medal, or holy card has touched a first-class relic, you now have custody of a thirdclass relic! from Mila Glodava s Blog October 15, 2015 St. Prosper of Aquitane Feast Day - July 7th No one is sanctified except him who is united to the Church. A good student in his youth, especially of the work of Saint Augustine of Hippo; Prosper was known throughout his life for his holiness and purity. As an adult, Prosper moved from Aquitaine to Provence and settled near Marseilles, an area plagued with heresies. A layman, Prosper worked to increase these people s understanding, and to educate them in their mistakes. He became widely known for his work converting heretics, sometimes leading pilgrimages to Rome, Italy so heretics could hear the truth straight from the Pope. Secretary to Pope Saint Leo the Great in 440; he used the position to spread truth and teach against heresy, fighting endlessly against semi-pelagianism. 3

The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matthew 9:37 Radical Awareness of Discipleship (RAD) RAD is a gathering of high school age men who are open to following Jesus Christ as Catholic priests. Events are sponsored by the Office of Priestly Vocations of the Archdiocese of Denver and led by Vocations Director, Fr. Ryan O Neill, and seminarians of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. Retreats include: Prayer, Mass, Small group discussions, Opportunity for Question & Answer with Archbishop Aquila or seminarians, Sports, Food, and Friendship Beginning Fall of 2017 Retreats are held at St. John Vianney Seminary at: 1300 South Steele St., Denver, Vocation Chalice We need good, holy priests to bring us the Eucharist. Therefore the purpose of our program is to pray for priests and priestly vocations every day. The chalice is the sacred cup that the priest uses at Mass in which the Precious Blood of Jesus is consecrated then given to the faithful. We hope through our efforts and God s grace that this spiritual devotion will plant the seed of a priestly vocation in many young men. Host for the week of July 2nd is the: Stine Family Sign up, in the back of the church, to host the Vocation Chalice at your home!! Please welcome Deacon Hal Goldwire Age: 52 Hometown: Grew up in Toledo, Ohio, lived in Centennial, Colorado for 10 years and now lives in Lakewood, Colorado Assigned Parish: St. Vincent de Paul Family: Wife Miki and three children Halie, Josh and Kara What has been the biggest spiritual influence in your life? The answer is actually twofold. Spiritual direction at The Lanteri Center for Ignatian Spirituality allowed me to grow in a relationship with Jesus rather than just maintaining a heady theological understanding of Christ. Then through praying the Jesus Prayer, this relationship moved 18 inches from my head to an indwelling of my heart perhaps the longest pilgrimage I ve ever made!

7 Catholic Events and Resources Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Can something be done for her? I love that. Elisha visits this family so often that the woman of influence (I love that too) sets up a little room for him up on the roof, with a bed and a table and, I ll bet, some lovely fruit and bread for the morning. Elisha, who is well known and, perhaps, a tad entitled to these niceties, sees this kind woman for who she is gracious, thoughtful, industrious and wonders if anything can be done for her. Have you ever been surprised by the kindness of someone who really saw you, really understood the effort you make to keep others comfortable? So much of what we do in life is invisible to everyone but God. That extra attention the engineer gives to building a bridge that is not just adequate, but truly safe, comes to mind. No one sees that triplechecking, but life is better because of it. I have an oncologist who is so meticulous, so loving in the care he gives his patients that I joke that after he saves my life maybe he could change the oil in my car too. Can something be done for him? I always wonder. I love the people in this world who see the person struggling with mental illness and say, Can something be done for her? In many parishes, a staff position is dedicated to noticing the needs of the homebound, the immigrants, the young families juggling life with a new baby, and asking, Can something be done for them? And what about you? Can something be done for you? God wants to know. We all do. Parish Access Code: XFTDNJ for Formed.org Journey through Scripture is the St. Paul Center s dynamic Bible study program designed to help ordinary Catholics grow in their knowledge of the Scriptures while deepening their understanding of the riches of our faith. Distinctively Catholic, Journey through Scripture reads the Bible from the heart of the Church, engaging both the Old and New Testaments and how they work together. It s grounded in history, yet actively engages topics faced by today s Catholic. More than just an ordinary Bible study, it s biblical catechesis. The Bible and the Virgin Mary is a dynamic twelve-part video series that beautifully explains the Catholic truths about Our Lady, showing how she has been a part of God s plan to bring salvation to the world since the beginning of time. In addition to explanation of dogmas, answers to common objections, and demonstration of Mary s presence in the Old and New Testaments, this study discusses Church-approved Marian apparitions that play an important role in Catholic Tradition. It s sure to help Catholics and non-catholics alike grow in an understanding and appreciation of the Mother of God. Who am I to Judge? Responding to Relativism with Logic and Love Last meeting is July 5th, 1:30 pm 3 pm In this second book club selection by Edward Sri, we will discover some practical keys for talking about morality with our relativistic friends. Please join us for our final meeting to discuss, Who am I to Judge?. July 5 Keys 5-7 No registration required; you are welcome to attend any or all sessions of this book club.
