2 29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Pastor s Message Dear Parishioners, The proof we love God is the tithe. God designed this proof for the faithful so we would focus on the best reasons for living. The first fruits reminds us that God is first. Getting our priorities straight is what Stewardship of Treasure is all about. Please be generous because God cannot be outdone in generosity. Our monetary gift is made when it is given for the best reasons and offered at mass. It becomes a holy gift. God remembers us as we remember the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The best reasons for receiving communion is out of love for God. When we are asked to prove it; we show the proof that is good enough for God. Please make a commitment of what we are going to give to God this year in the collection. Please include the fees and costs we do not charge for at the parish. There are many second collections that come out of the offertory too. Good, better and best are the options before us. Not to give anything is not a good choice. Please start with some dollar amount and work up. I want to thank those who are preparing to give it all away when they die, by their current generosity and charity. Please prove our love for God. Please learn to tithe. 3 Stewardship of Treasure Stewardship of Prayer & Faith Parish and School Holy Hour sponsored by Respect Life St. Vincent de Paul Stewardship of Treasure By now you should have received Fr. Andrew s letter asking for your prayerful consideration of your Stewardship of Treasure. Generosity is a hallmark of our Christian faith and is returned a hundredfold to those who give not only of their surplus, but of their substance. Christian generosity means giving more than we should because we have faith in Jesus. Please join with fellow parishioners who have responded and pray that our Stewardship of Treasure will engage the entire parish. Thursday, October 25th Babysitting Drop-off 3:45 Adoration from 4:00 to 5:00 You are invited to share an hour in the presence of the Lord to receive his many graces. We expose the Blessed Sacrament and experience silence with a little light music at the opening and closing. World Missions Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, you told your apostles to proclaim the good news and to make followers of all nations. They gave their lives to you, and for you, to spread the Gospel throughout the world. Today, the faithful still strive to bring your name to those who need it most. Give your strength to missionaries around the world who give their lives every day in lands far from home. Help those charged with bringing your word to be an example of you for those who cannot read your word for themselves. Help those who do their work in your name to inspire others to seek you as their Savior. We ask this through you, Christ, our Lord, Savior of the world. Amen. 3

4 29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Saint John Paul II ( ) The second longest-serving pope in modern history ( ), St. John Paul II, who was born in Poland as Karol Wojtyla, became the first non-italian pope in more than 500 years. During his papal years, he helped end the Communist rule, promoted ecumenism, and was one of the most traveled world leaders. He conceived the iconic World Youth Day which gathers millions of young people from around the globe to profess their faith. In the process, St. John Paul II inspired countless vocations to the priesthood and religious life. He was the defender of Church teachings on the dignity of the human person, the culture of life, and the reforms of Vatican II, including its universal call to holiness. St. John Paul II beatified more than 1,300 people and canonized nearly 500 saints during his pontificate. 5 Stewardship of Time & Talent (Continued) Wine & Cheese/Coffee & Donuts Everyone and anyone please come join us Saturday, November 3rd after 5pm Mass for Wine & Cheese and Sunday, November 4th after all the Masses for Coffee & Donuts. We will be gathering for wine & cheese and Donut Sundays the first weekend of every month. Mark your calendars and come enjoy yourselves. St. Vincent de Paul Society THE FRUITS OF YOUR BOUNTY Thanks to the generous donations you made to the weekly offering, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help families in need in our area. We just want to tell you about one family we helped this past week. Takisha is a single mother with two children. She called for rental assistance. The father of her children stopped paying child support. And when it rains, it pours, her boss cut her hours. She is working out how to make it next month but is trying hard to keep her children in their home. Thanks to your generosity, the Society was able to help Takisha and so many others who are in such difficult situations. 7 Catholic Events Resources (Continued) documentary -- ewtn 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time The 1983 movie Without a Trace is a terrifying tale of a missing child. Reporters gather around the hysterical mother, saying, We know how you feel, but try to be coherent. Her reply is perfect: If you felt what I feel you d be screaming right now. I think of that moment when this section of the letter to the Hebrews comes around: For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way (4:15). We have a God who knows everything we experience. Imagine the terror Jesus felt when the Romans came to lay hold of him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Imagine being betrayed with a kiss. (That s not hard, I ll bet, for people whose spouses have had affairs.) Imagine being held, in chains, by those who seek your harm. (Again, this is an easy step for those who serve in militaries, or those captured by terrorist groups like ISIS.) Imagine being unable to get away from someone who is hurting you. (The huge numbers of women and men whose stories are surfacing at this moment in the culture is enough proof that there are millions who can identify.) Imagine being thirsty (as they surely are today in the Florida Panhandle). Imagine watching your mother weep as you die (as must surely happen everywhere prisoners are executed). The crucifixion was a scandal to the Greco-Roman world, whose untouchable gods reigned forever over the skies and seas, and even Hades. That these odd Jews worshiped a God who had been mercilessly nailed to a tree was incomprehensible. Who needs a God like that? We do. What suffering in your life is similar to the suffering of Jesus?
