1 CHRISTMAS DAY December 25, 2016 CHRISTMAS 2016 Dear Friends in The Lord, A more unsuitable place than a stable could not have been found for the birth of Our Lord and Savior. And yet this is where He chooses! I believe there is a great lesson to be learned from this. After His birth, this cold and dreary stable was turned into the most beautiful place upon earth, lit by a brilliant star and surrounded by choirs of angels. Even Kings left their earthly thrones to pay him homage and bathe in His light! Every day Christ desires to be born and live in our hearts. We may say, but my heart is not worthy it is dark and sinful. As Christ transformed the stable so too He can transform our hearts with His presence. Our sinfulness is transformed through His mercy; our weakness, through his grace and our fear through His courage. Let us seize each day to be born anew in Christ. Each worshipper is asked to give thanks to God for our parish by a generous show of support in the Christmas collection. The Poor At Christmas You have an opportunity to help the unfortunate right in our own parish. The Poor Box donations are given to St. Barnabas parishioners who have fallen on hard times. Please know that your anonymous donations are encouraged especially at Christmas time. The Poor Boxes are situated by the church and chapel doors. Lectio Divina Reflection Lectio Divina Reflection: Today s Gospel is John 1:1-18 What are the richest sources of love in your life? For whom are you a source of love? Lectio Divina opens scripture in a way that one can discover an active faith is possible in today s world. Contact Helen McCullagh for more information. Souls in purgatory no longer have the benefit of the Eucharist; however, we can apply the benefits of our Masses to them. Please come to offer Mass for their intention. YOUNG ADULTS - MASS We invite all young adults in their 20's and 30's (little ones welcome!) to join us for our next Young Adult Mass on Sunday, January 8 th at the 5:00pm in the Main Church. This month, the Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Richard Marrano, Parochial Vicar at Saint Rose of Lima, Washington Heights.
