2 4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER Pastor s Message Dear Parishioners, Be like Rodger. The Archbishop s Catholic Appeal commitment weekend is happening at Mass today. The main character in the ACA video is Rodger. He has all these reasons why not to give. He finds out there are a number of ways to give and eventually comes around to make a commitment. Sadly, there a lot of people who do not give to the ACA. There are those who do not know how to thank God by giving a portion back to God in thanksgiving for all God does for us. The tithe is a holy gift, an offering. The first ten percent of our income belong to God and not to us. Please consider giving one or two percent of your income to the ACA. Archbishop Aquila is counting on us to help him do the work of God. Perhaps we can come around and be generous like Rodger. I want to thank those who are being good stewards thus far in making our 2018 Gala a success. Your hard work shows your love for our parish and school. It also shows your commitment to our children and to our legacy of Catholic Education under the trustworthy care of the Nashville Dominicans. Thank you! Be like Rodger. Sincerely in Christ, Stewardship of Prayer Sunday: Acts 4:8-12/Ps 118:1, 8-9, 21-23, 26, 28, 29 [22]/1 Jn 3:1-2/Jn 10:11-18 Monday: Acts 11:1-18/Ps 42:2-3; 43:3, 4 [cf. 3a]/Jn 10:1-10 Tuesday: Acts 11:19-26/Ps 87:1b-3, 4-5, 6-7 [117:1a]/Jn 10:22-30 Wednesday: 1 Pt 5:5b-14/Ps 89:2-3, 6-7, [2]/Mk 16:15-20 Thursday: Acts 13:13-25/Ps 89:2-3, 21-22, 25 and 27 [2]/ Jn 13:16-20 Friday: Acts 13:26-33/Ps 2:6-7, 8-9, 10-11ab [7bc]/Jn 14:1-6 Saturday: Acts 13:44-52/Ps 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4 [3cd]/Jn 14:7-14 Next Sunday: Acts 9:26-31/Ps 22:26-27, 28, 30, [26a]/1 Jn 3:18-24/Jn 15:1-8 Monday, April 23rd: 6:30 Pat Bann 8:00 Werner Walsh Tuesday, April 24th: 6:30 Tom Siccone 8:00 Rosalia Garcia Wednesday, April 25th: 6:30 Giovaninna de Masi 8:00 Lidia Lam-de-Chang Thursday, April 26th: 6:30 Martha O'Flaherty 8:10 Catherine Hatton Friday, April 27th: 6:30 Mary Janiczek 8:00 Jim O'Brien 8:00 Patrick Crowely 5:00 Deacon George Morin Sunday, April 29th: 7:30 Nicholas D'Onofrio 9:30 Hedda Shepherd 11:30 SVdP Parishioners Our ill parish members & relatives: Roger Giellis Pat Bann Our deceased parish members & relatives: Patrick Crowley Veterans and deceased members of our Armed Forces who serve selflessly to protect our way of life. Disgusted by the greed, corruption, and lack of interest in justice by his fellow lawyers, Mark Rey abandoned the law, became a priest, became a Franciscan friar with his brother George, changed his name to Fidelis, and gave away his worldly wealth to poor people in general but in particular to the poor seminarians. He served his friary as guardian and worked in epidemics, especially healing soldiers. He led a group of Capuchins to preach to Calvinists and Zwinglians in Switzerland. The success of this work and lack of violence suffered by mission was attributed to Fidelis spending his nights in prayer. He was, however, eventually martyred for his preaching. 5 Stewardship of Vocations Importance of Praying for Vocation Prayers for vocations are for more men and women to dedicate themselves to serving our Lord and His flock in the religious life. Now more than ever, in these difficult times, the world needs heroes, as the New York Archdiocese s Office of Vocations puts it. Our police and firemen are considered heroes when they save lives. Why not also think of our priests that way when they do so much to save souls? As Christ once said, in sending out His disciples in ministry, the harvest is great but the laborers are few (Matt 9:37). We offer these prayers for vocations to help send more laborers to bring our Lord an abundant crop of people whose lives have been transformed by the graces they receive from our faith! from CatholicPrayers.com website St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School ol Our Week at a Glance Please note the following Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School events: Wednesday, April 25th: Spring Concert, 6:00 in the gym Friday, April 27th: Grandparents Day, Mass at 9:45 First Holy Communion, 10:00 Please call our school at , extension 102 for more information! 7 Catholic Events and Resources Fourth Sunday of Easter I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. Don t those magnificent words of Jesus sit well with your soul? I remember the anguished nights of my youth, praying for all those around the world who would die that night and go to hell because no one had ever told them about Jesus. Even as a ten-year-old I knew, in that deep, warm place where grace and truth hover in the heart, that God was greater than all that. The Vatican II pastoral document Gaudium et Spes (The Church in the Modern World) gives words to our intuitions about who the sheep in Christ s pasture might be: We ought to believe that the Holy Spirit in a manner known only to God offers to everyone the possibility of being associated with this paschal mystery. (22) In the sixth book of C.S. Lewis classic Christian allegory, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawntreader such a beautiful book, my favorite of the seven the odious, insufferable cousin Eustace has a terrifying encounter with a dragon, and is saved by a Lion. He immediately feels terrible about his past behavior, and asks his cousins Lucy and Edmond to forgive him, and to tell him more about this Lion (the Christ). Do you know him? asks Eustace. Yes, says Edmond. I know him. But he knows me better. Ah. Beautiful. God is near to us, and knows us better than we can know God. There is, unfortunately, one caveat: God looks upon the lowly and supplies them. But the proud God knows from afar (Ps. 138:6). What are you doing to make sure God doesn t know you from afar? 1060 AM "LIVE" RADIO EVENT Our very own Reverend Father Andrew will be a guest speaker on the Catholic Radio Network.
