3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page A Message from the Padre O n this Sunday s Feast of the Epiphany, our Gospel from Matthew brings us the story of the Magi who left everything behind and followed a bright star in the sky. But Why would anyone leave everything, and follow a star from a far? Perhaps the only answer that the three Magi could offer us, and one that makes sense was that within their hearts there is that restlessness to find the truth for the Heavenly King that will bring peace on the earth. M y dear friends, our feast this weekend reminds us of the unforgettable words of St. Augustine: Our hearts are restless, until they find their rest in you. Yes, in all of us, there is that restlessness in our hearts that keeps us looking for something new and for something better. We keep on searching for that star that will satisfy our dreams and fulfill our needs. Just like the three Magi, the star represents a call that was heavenly. To them, the light of the star was a symbol of hope, of joy and of peace. It is easy then to imagine their joy when the heavenly sign came to a stop. Finally, they saw what they were looking for and kneeling down, they glorified and adored this little baby named Jesus. My dear brothers and sisters, the story of the Epiphany is also our story. We are like the three Wisemen who travel afar and were guided to the divine birth of Christ. Being enlightened by that guiding star and the Light of God in our hearts, we are called to go forward and to share with others the Good News of the birth of Jesus Christ. S o just like the three Magi, as we go home today proclaiming our own Epiphany story may we pay homage to this little child named Jesus and may this child s promise of faith, hope and love be large enough to bring us peace in our lives so that as St. Augustine said Our restless hearts will finally find rest in Him. 4 The Epiphany of the Lord Page The Epiphany of the Lord Mt 2: 1-12 Listening to the readings proclaimed today, it will become apparent that God intends for the Good News of salvation to be shared by everyone. From the expansive vision of Isaiah to the radical inclusion of Saint Paul, we are to understand that the journey of the magi is one that we all can undertake. The signs are there, in the heavens and in God s word. Let us all pack our bags and seek the Lord wherever the journey takes us. The Holy Father s Prayer Intentions January 2016 Universal: Interreligious Dialogue - That sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce the fruits of peace and justice. ADORATION Our Lady Queen of Peace will have a one hour exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the last Friday of the month following the 9:00 AM Mass. Please come and spend a little time in prayer with Our Lord. Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. 5 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page EPIPHANY SERVICE JANUARY 6, 2016 Our annual Epiphany celebration with our neighbors and friends from St. Paul s Lutheran Church will take place on Wednesday, January 6th. We will gather at St. Paul s Church for dinner beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by the Prayer Service at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 7:30 PM. Please join us for this special celebration with our neighbors from St. Paul s. St. Paul s Lutheran Church is located at 910 Marne Highway, Hainesport. LAYING OUR GIFTS AT THE FEET OF THE KING The three Wise Men gave Jesus gifts worthy of a king. We can also present him with our own royal gifts. While ours may not be actual gold, frankincense and myrrh, we can still give to him the best we have. Gold: The gift of kings, the gold we can offer the King of Kings is our talents and abilities. Like gold, our talents do the most good when given to others. Frankincense: Frankincense was used as incense during worship and symbolized the prayers offered up to God. In the time of Jesus, frankincense was used by priests whose job it was to intercede for the people. Our priestly ministry can be praying daily for those who need it, especially anyone we know who is struggling and particularly in need of strength and comfort. Myrrh: A spice used to ease suffering, myrrh was a valuable gift. Mother Teresa once said, I serve because I love Jesus. Our kindness can be our myrrh offered to God - a valuable gift. The cost of each brick with your personal message and a symbol is $125. Proceeds for the brick pavers will be used to support the life and ministry of our parish. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OUR PARISH BIRDS Saturday and / or Sunday We are looking for reliable volunteers to assist with the care of our parish birds. If you are willing to offer a few minutes to give our birds food and fresh water please call Carol Nasife at ext. 16. Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Hainesport, New Jersey Resurrection Parish 260 Conrow Road, Delran, NJ Altar Rosary Society Oplatek Dinner Resurrection Parish Altar Rosary Society is having a fabulous family night of home cooked food both Polish and American food and music for a night of fellowship. Please come at 6:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016 for our annual Oplatek Dinner. This is a night for families to get together and share a good time with one another. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children from ages 6 to 12. There will be a children s friendly menu offered also. This can be a great time for all. BYOB. Year of Mercy January 2016 Corporal Act of Mercy Feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty - Begin the New Year with a Resolution to do something special to reach out to those in need of food to sustain their families. Consider volunteering at a Soup Kitchen, contributing to a casserole program or running a special food collection.
