3 March 13, 2016 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Message from the Padre T here are several stories in the Bible that have lasting effects on our mind. On this Fifth Sunday of Lent, the Church offers us one of them in the story of the Woman Caught in Adultery a story that talks about justice, forgiveness and mercy. This is one of the great literary virtues of John s Gospel that each of us should remember. This story reminds us that we cannot self-righteously condemn others, when God is calling them tenderly to conversion. My dear friends, the wonderful truth that is revealed to us in this Gospel story is that God does not sanction hatred for others, but rather God stands with the victim with mercy, compassion and forgiveness. This tells us that in justice God calls our sins and in mercy, he sets us free. Yes, behind human condemnation stands the justice of God who will render to us all according to what we have done. The justice of God always deserves the right of mercy. The truth is God never chooses between justice and mercy, but always treats us with both. St. Augustine said it brilliantly in Latin that, at the end of this story, there are two things that happened: miseria et misericordia which means Misery and Mercy - the woman in misery and Jesus mercy. M y brothers and sisters, during these final days before Palm Sunday, let us show our gratitude to God by confessing our sins. Let us refrain from judging others and let us read carefully the pages of our own soul and ask the question: Where is that mercy is love and compassion in our life? Fr. God opens a way in the sea and a path in the mighty waters, says Isaiah in the first reading. Thus, in a seemingly impossible situation, Jesus opens a way, not only for himself, but for the woman accused of adultery. The Lord is indeed doing something new! Classes will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM. First Reconciliation for our Second Grade Students will be held this weekend. Please remember our students in your prayers. Knights of Columbus Palm Cross Sale The Knights of Columbus will be selling palm crosses after all Masses this weekend. All palm crosses will be priced at $10.00 each. Proceeds will benefit the Monsignor Richard Tofani, Scholarship Fund. Blood Drive The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring their annual Blood Drive for the Red Cross on Saturday, March 19th, 8 AM to 1 PM in the Parish Hall. It will be for those who have lost a loved one and are having difficulty getting through the grief process. If you are interested, please contact us at the Parish Office by calling ext. 16.
