3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Message from the Padre T his weekend is Palm Sunday, also called Passion Sunday, which is the beginning of Holy Week. The Feast of Palm Sunday has been celebrated since the earliest days of Christianity, but the use of palms in connection with religious celebrations goes all the way back to Old Testament times. The readings we hear on Palm Sunday recall two things: 1) the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and 2) the narrative of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ that sets before us a blueprint of the events of the Paschal Mystery. My dear friends, the Paschal Mystery, which is the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, is not only Jesus journey but also our journey. It is a time for us not only to recall but also to re-live this mystery in our lives. In other words, for Christians around the world, we celebrate these events as they happened not only in the past, but as they also happen today. We celebrate Christ as the King who enters into our hearts as our own personal Jerusalem. M y dear brothers and sisters, the holiest week of the year begins this week. But the world does not stop. Everything goes on regular TV programs, regular work schedules, deadline for income taxes and so on. But if you want this week to be a Holy Week start asking the questions: How are we responding to God s sacrifice and His love for us? Are we making every effort to come closer to God? Are we truly repentant for our sins? And is our faith in Jesus the greatest priority in our lives? S o as we receive our palm branches this weekend, let us take them to our homes and place them somewhere where we can always see them. Let the palms remind us that Christ is the King of our families that Christ is the King of our hearts and that Christ is the only true answer to our happiness. If we do proclaim Christ as our King, let us try and make time for Him and be reminded that He is the one with whom we will be spending eternity. In between, we will hear proclaimed Isaiah s prophetic description of the Suffering Servant, Saint Paul s great hymn of praise, and the dramatic unfolding of the Passion according to Saint Matthew. Let us take time to absorb it all, reflecting on the very great love of God for us, revealed in the man who was truly the Son of God. Please join the Altar Rosary Society as they gather to recite the rosary on Sunday, May 7th following the 9 AM Mass. The Marian Shrines The next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 7:00 PM. New members are always welcome to attend our monthly meetings. September 19-28, 2017 The Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Trenton is sponsoring an afternoon (arriving at the seminary at 3:00 PM and departing at 6:30 PM) for boys in grades 7-12 to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia on Sunday, April 30th. The afternoon will include: talks by seminarians and Vocation Directors: Fr. Mike Wallack, Fr. Garry Koch and Fr. Dan Swift, a seminary tour; gym time; vespers (evening prayer); and a light dinner. The purpose of the outing is to introduce boys to what a seminary is like and to consider a possible vocation to the priesthood. Adult chaperones are needed for transportation to and from and supervision at the seminary. Permission forms for students and driver information forms for anyone wishing to be a chaperone are available in the Parish Office.
