3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Message from the Padre T his weekend, Jesus gives us the Parable of the Unprofitable Servant to teach us that there is never a time in the life of a disciple when one can say that he or she has done enough and that one should be rewarded for their good work. We must be aware that our faith is increased by our works in obedience and grounded in humility. We serve him not to win his approval, but we serve him knowing we can do more and never to do less of what we are capable of. D uring month of October, Christ calls us not only to serve, but to remain humble in our obedience and servitude to Respect Life. Yes, the month of October is considered by the Church as Respect Life Month, and every year during this month we are called to pray not only to end abortion, but also to protect and honor life in all its stages from the beginning of life for those at the end of life and for those who are struggling in life. This means that Respect for Life is not only about our fight against abortion, but it also involves the protection of the elderly, the incurably ill laid open to euthanasia, the condemned victims of the death penalty and many others. Our commitment then as Catholics is to value the dignity of every life by protecting and respecting the dignity of God s creation of human life. This is not an easy endeavor especially in the kind of society in which we live. There are laws made in opposition to Christ s teachings and there are conflicts of personality, overall impatience and frustration. Many in our world today call themselves Christians, but are lukewarm to Jesus Gospel of Life. And it is hard to get over our frustration especially since it has been more than forty years since abortion was legalized in this country. Yes, this is our world today...but remember it doesn t have to be our world tomorrow. My dear friends, we are people of life. Remember that our faith as Christians does not depend on the world s shifting values. As Catholics, we have a duty to reflect on that moral component of the Gospel and the teachings and traditions of our Church. Therefore, we should be firm in our choice and must stand for our principles, faith and traditions. Let us not forget that our Christian identity comes from bearing the image of our Creator and that all wisdom of humanity must be guided by the word of God. He simply asks us to be patient and must entrust all our efforts to Christ his son, and to the care of our Blessed Mother Mary. As your pastor and the appointed Liaison to the Bishop for Family Life and Pro-life Activity for the Diocese of Trenton, I ask you to pray, especially this month, and to support the Diocese s activities in defending the sanctity of all human life, keeping in mind that all life is a gift from God to be cherished and respected and not ours to take. 4 Page Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Every life is worth living Respect Life! Luke 17: 5-10 How often do we feel, like the apostles in today s Gospel, that our faith is simply inadequate? Yet Jesus answer is that even faith the size of a mustard seed can do great things. So often we feel helpless in the presence of the great problems of our day. But as we hear these readings, perhaps it will be best for us to listen for the message that says, Do what you can. It will be enough. Feast of St. Francis of Assisi Sunday, October 9, :30 PM On the church grounds Juliet Deborah Rudman (Baptized September 18, 2016) All Pets Welcome! There will be a MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT MEETING on Sunday, October 23rd after all the Masses addressing the changes in Medicare Part A and B, Medicare Advantage, and Part D prescription drug plans. Medicare Open Enrollment ends December 7th. This meeting will be presented by parishioner Seth Dornisch. Dominic Jared Toscano (Baptized September 25, 2016) Altar Rosary Society We are proud of the members of our Youth Group who will be participating in the Relay For Life of Rancocas Valley Regional High School on Friday, October 14th. Please refer to the flyer in this weekend s bulletin for more information on how you can help. October 7th is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. During the Christian s battles with the Turks in the 16th Century, Pope St. Pius V requested all the faithful to say the rosary and to pray to our Blessed Mother, under the title of Our Lady of Victory. The Christians were victorious, and the victory was attributed to the praying of the rosary. This week, we invoke Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady Queen of Peace, to pray for us, and for peace in our families, our nation and in our world. The next Youth Group Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 9th following the Noon Mass. The next meeting of the Altar Rosary Society will be held on Tuesday, October 4th at 7 PM in the Parish Hall. Hope to see you there! All are welcome to attend.
