3 May 4, 2014 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Mass Schedule Saturday Evening: 4:30 p.m. Sunday: 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Daily Mass: 9:00 a.m. Reconciliation: Saturday 3:45-4:15 p.m. IN MEMORIAM Please remember in your prayers a member of our parish family who died: Margaret Kershes Also Deceased members of our Parish and those who died in the Service of our Country. May they enjoy peace in their new life with Christ Jesus. Third Sunday of Easter Luke 24: The disciples encounter with the stranger was such that they found the wisdom to say, Stay with us, even in their confusion. Do we find that same wisdom? What better stewards we would be if we invited the Lord to stay with us, in our hearts and minds, living the Resurrection in our conviction that Christ is indeed with us! Prayer for the Grieving Gracious God, please comfort the sorrowful. When a loved one dies, it changes our lives so quickly. Help those who are living in grief to know your loving embrace. Teach them that the dear ones they miss are truly living in the joy and peace of your heavenly kingdom. And as the pain eases and the healing begins, give them the strength to reach out to help those who follow them. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen READINGS FOR THE WEEK Sunday: Acts 2: 14, 22-33, 1 Pt 1: 17-21, Lk 24: Monday: Acts 6: 8-15, Jn 6: Tuesday: Acts 7: 51-8: 1a, Jn 6: Wednesday: Acts 8: 1b-8, Jn 6: Thursday: Acts 8: 26-40, Jn 6: Friday: Acts 9: 1-20, Jn 6: Saturday: Acts 9: 31-42, Jn 6: The Holy Father s Prayer Intentions May 2014 Universal: That the media may be instruments in the service of truth and peace. For Evangelization: That Mary, Star of Evangelization, may guide the Church in proclaiming Christ to all nations. Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen PRAYERS FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILY The safety and success of our military serving at home and abroad defending our country should be prayed for daily. All should be recognized for their outstanding commitment to risk their lives so we can remain free. 4 May 4, 2014 Third Sunday of Easter Page Our Lady Queen of Peace Honors Deacon John The Two Men on the Road to Emmaus A Message from the Padre Our gospel reading for this third week of Easter is a powerful story of the two men on the Road to Emmaus who did not recognize Jesus after His resurrection. We all can see ourselves fully in these two men. We say that we walk with Christ, but we do not recognize him because sometimes we are too overwhelmed with disappointment, doubt, defeat, despair and even death. Yes, all of these words sum up the feelings of these two men as they walk up the road toward Emmaus talking about what happened to Jesus. They had high hopes for the future, but now their hopes were gone and all that was left was disappointment. My dear friends, in some ways we all can identify ourselves with these two men walking to Emmaus, especially when someone you love is overtaken by a serious illness or when someone you care for dies. This Easter season, we are given hope to celebrate. The story of the walk to Emmaus was supposed to be of an ordinary walk. But this walk became a great story of our faith because we know that at the end the hope of these two men has been fulfilled as they finally recognized Jesus in the Breaking of the Bread.. This is the same way that the Lord becomes known to us; we might not recognize him at first, yet as we walk with him in our own Emmaus we will know him more especially in the breaking of the bread in the Eucharist which is the sacramental supper of Holy Communion. So when we feel that our Emmaus road is filled with discouragement and despair, let us not stop but invite Christ to walk with us. Fr. Joe Come join us as we honor Deacon John at the 4:30 Mass on Saturday, May 17th. Following the Mass there will be a picnic on the church grounds.
