3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page A Message from the Padre For God so Loved the World that He gave His only Begotten Son This weekend we are celebrating the Fourth Sunday of Lent, also called Laetare Sunday, which means to Rejoice in Latin. It is rather a unique Sunday, as the purple vestments are set aside, and rose colored vestments are used and flowers, which are normally forbidden during Lent, may be placed on the altar. The point of Laetare Sunday just like the Gaudete Sunday of Advent is to provide us a time to pause in joyful anticipation of the coming mystery of the penitential season and for Lent, it is the anticipation of the joyful Resurrection of Jesus Christ. In our Gospel this weekend, Jesus said: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." We are all familiar with his passage from John as this small but important passage is the essence of our faith. If someone wants to know about our faith, of what we believe and what we practice, this would be a good passage which would show everything about God, about us, and about our faith and salvation. Yes, many reasons may be given to explain this passage but the simplest explanation is that God s love for the world gives us hope and strength to renew us in faith and whoever believes in him will not perish but will have eternal life. My dear friends, as we pause in joyful anticipation on this Laetare Sunday, let us remember God s love for us and the promise of eternal life. May Christ s resurrection give us comfort and strength that we too shall in many ways, rise with him on our last day. Fr. There is so much here for contemplation and prayer, gratitude and celebration. Indeed, God so loves the world that God has acted before in history through Cyrus of Persia, and even today through the Holy Spirit in our own lives. As we listen to these holy scriptures today, in what ways do they remind us of how God acts in our own lives? Easter Basket Project Religious Education News First Reconciliation for all Second Grade Students will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 10 AM. Please remember our students in your prayers. New stuffed animals are also accepted so that some of the organizations will have them on hand for children needing TLC. When a loved one dies, it changes our lives so quickly. Help those who are living in grief to know your loving embrace. Teach them that the dear ones they miss are truly living in the joy and peace of your heavenly kingdom. And as the pain eases and the healing begins, give them the strength to reach out to help those who follow them. We ask this in the name of Jesus. 6 Page Fourth Sunday of Lent Knights of Columbus KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ALMS GIVING IS ONE OF THE PRIMARY WAYS TO JOURNEY THROUGH LENT. Palm Cross Sale The Knights of Columbus will be selling palm crosses after all Masses the weekend of March 21 / 22. All palm crosses will be priced at $10.00 each. Proceeds will benefit the Monsignor Richard Tofani, Scholarship Fund. March 14 / 15 Anchor House Wash cloths, bath towels and laundry detergent (HE) On March 22nd, 2015 at Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville, hundreds of teens from all over the Diocese will come together for DYC-Diocesan Youth Celebration. All Students in 8th 12th grade are invited to participate in this day designed to deepen their faith and of course have an amazing time. It will be a dynamic day filled with high quality speakers, a live band, Adoration, Confession, Mass, and Breakout sessions with nationally renowned speakers. The cost is $20 and includes a Tshirt and lunch. Auditions are booked in one hour time slots starting at 3PM. Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me (Mt 25: 40). Today, we are reminded that Jesus identified himself with our poorest brothers and sisters. The Catholic Relief Services Collection serves Jesus in the victims of human trafficking, in those who suffer from unjust laws, and in those who need pastoral care and humanitarian assistance across the globe.
