3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Message from the Padre Our Gospel this weekend talks about divorce and the teachings of Jesus about divorce which left the Church with a two-fold legacy. First, the Church continues to restate Jesus prophetic message of marriage, What God has joined together, let no human being divide. On the other hand, the Church constantly reflects the pastoral concern for those who have suffered divorce. M y dear friends, divorce is a painful subject. There is always that pain in the truth when you can no longer live with the father or the mother of your children. This reality then affects not only the couple getting divorced, but it also affects the children and the extended family. It is precisely for this reason that we need to bring Jesus love in this situation as Christ s love is big enough to reconcile the division in broken families. T his is not to say that the only solution to marital problems is to end it with divorce. The vows to love another person "as long as we live" should always be upheld and kept. It is a sacrament...a covenant... a promise not only to your spouse, but a promise to God. But sometimes, as much as we want to, we fail to keep our promises to Christ. Yes, we all desire to follow God s commandments but there are times that we fail God more than we desire him. Let us not forget that the mercy of Christ is a mercy that can fully embrace whatever has brought two people to a divorce. He calls us today to gather under this blanket of mercy so we too can understand and show our love and compassion for those whose marriage did not last and ended up in a divorce. Yes, today Jesus presents us with a vision of what marriage should be but on the other hand, he utters no word of condemning the divorced. That tells us that no matter how dry our heart is, no matter how broken is our past. Jesus welcomes and unites us all, and we should not feel less loved because we have a loving and merciful God. Fr. Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Genesis 2: 18-24, Hebrews 2: 9-11 Mark 10: 2-16 Twice in today s readings we hear, in reference to those who are married, the two become one flesh. Significantly, we hear these words first in Genesis, where the first person becomes a co-creator, naming all the animals and even providing a rib so that God could create a partner. In becoming one flesh, two people create a new and unique entity. Let us reflect on how we have or can become co-creators, creating bonds and creating life from the impulse of love. Religious Education News No Religious Education Class Monday and Tuesday October 8th and 9th OUR PROMISE TO PROTECT On Saturday, October 27th at 9:30 AM, the Junior Youth Group will be going to Indian Acres Tree Farm in Medford for a hayride. Come and enjoy a 20 minute wagon ride thru the 150 acre preserved farm, stopping at the pumpkin patch for each child to pick out their very own pumpkin.
