3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Message from the Padre This weekend our Christian calendar for the Ordinary Time comes to an end with the Feast of Christ the King which celebrates Christ's Lordship over all things in the universe. The Feast of Christ the King offers us a grace-filled opportunity to sit back as individuals and take a look at the Glory of God as our Savior and our King. But just how did Jesus the Carpenter from Nazareth come to be regarded as a King, especially in today s world when we think of being a King, and the images that come to our mind are about wealth, power, richness, admiration of great palaces and a crown of gold. My dear friends, to understand this clearly we need to recognize that kingship in Christ is not about authority, prestige and control, but about peace, forgiveness and reconciliation. He chooses his crowd among the low, the hungry and the oppressed. He proclaimed a kingdom of justice, peace, sharing, humility, childlike faith and love where the person is much more important than the rule and the law. My dear brothers and sisters, as we begin our journey through this Advent Season, let us reflect on Christ as the King of all. It is good to have the image of a royal Christ in our mind and heart as we meet him this coming Advent Season. It might teach us something about power and vulnerability of sacrifice and respect... and of wanting to serve in humility for the Glory of God. Though scripture was written by different types of authors - storytellers, prophets, psalmists, letter writers, evangelists - and in different forms - historical narratives, myths, psalms, testimonies, epistles - it all is the word of God. In today s Gospel, Jesus tells Pilate that everyone who belongs to the truth listens to his voice. We belong to the truth, so now we listen to God s voice. So Mr. and Mrs. Clause would like to invite you for lunch on Sunday, December 16th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Menu Hot Dogs and Pizza Cupcakes and Drinks Tickets will be available the weekends of December 1/2 and 8/9. Children - Free Adults - $5.00 Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus will be selling poinsettias. Preorders can be made after all Masses the weekend of December 1st and 2nd. Freddie Faber As a parish, we celebrate the Birth of Jesus by sharing with others through our annual Giving Tree. We invite you to join in this joy-filled project by purchasing items indicated on the ornaments you chose from the Giving Tree on December 1st. Please return the gift wrapped or placed in a gift bag with the ornament securely taped to the outside of the package. If the ornament is not attached, we have no way of knowing who the gift is for. We do not want any child deprived of a gift that was requested specifically for him or her. Please make sure all gifts are NEW, with no ribbons or bows on the package. Respect Life News Burlington County Diocesan Respect Life Committee The NJ Assembly failed to vote on the Doctor Assisted Suicide bill (A 1504). It appears that the next possible vote will be in mid-december. The fact that the vote was not yet taken is a sign that the bill is not as strong as it could be. This is a good opportunity to keep up the pressure on our legislators and let them know we are very much opposed to its passage. As Catholics we believe that any form of suicide is against both God s commandments and natural law. You can learn about this proposal and its many serious unintended consequences by looking at what the NJ Catholic bishops think about it and then forwarding your comments to your local state lawmakers. Father Joe and the Parish Staff would like to express their gratitude to all who participated in this year s Feed A Family Program. Thanks to your generosity, 125 Thanksgiving Dinners were provided and distributed to needy families and individuals in our local area. We would also like to thank all those who donated turkeys, and other Thanksgiving trimmings to our Food Pantry. Whatsoever you do for the least of my people, you do unto me. Our Lady Queen of Peace Books on Wheels Our Lady Queen of Peace now has Books on Wheels located in the Parish Hall. Anyone interested in borrowing a book can go down and browse our new library. Please feel free to borrow a book and return it when you finish reading it. This is on the honor system. We hope you enjoy our new Books on Wheels. We are in need of teachers to join the Children s Liturgy of the Word Ministry on Sunday during the 9:00 AM Mass. Please consider sharing the Good News with the children of our parish family.
