3 March 2, 2014 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page A Message from the Padre O n this 8th of Ordinary Time, Jesus tells us in the Sermon of the Mount, not to worry about our life. Whether we like it or not, worrying is as real as any emotion we have to deal with every day and will always be a part of our life. But the question is, why do we worry and what are the things that we are all worried about? W ell, for one, we worry about those things that have happened in the past. We worry about past failures and past decisions that we made. The other things that worry us are those bad things that we anticipate in our life. These are the terrifying things that we constantly wait to happen, but actually, they may not even happen in our lifetime. Then there are things that we worry about that actually do happen, like worrying about dying. Some people are so worried about How? Where? and When? they are going to die that they forgot how to live. Medical researchers have proven that excessive worrying can shorten our life. It is an irony that we worry about dying and in doing so, we are actually shortening our life. In this weekend s Gospel Jesus said, Do not worry about your life. Do not worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will take care of itself. Yes, this command may seem unrealistic to most of us. What can be translated not to worry, is very much a call to action by Christ and that call is to have faith and trust in HIM. That is why he said, No one can serve two masters or You cannot serve both God and Mammon (wealth or money). You will either hate one and love the other or be devoted to one and despise the other. M y dear parishioners, when we allow money to control us, it becomes our master. When wealth rules our hearts, it becomes much too easy for us to exchange our morals with worldly desires and for anything that will give us the illusion of power and control. We become enslave with our worldly possessions and worry sets in because it can never fully satisfy our needs. Yes, Jesus makes all things beautiful in His time. That is why we have to stop worrying and start trusting and believing in Him. Remember, Jesus trusted in God the Father with His entire being. Today, we too are called to do the same. After the Noon Mass on, March 16th we will be having a St. Patrick s Day Celebration with Irish food, prizes, music and a sing along. Of course we will also have Irish Coffee. Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $5.00 for children under twelve. There will only be 120 tickets available. No tickets will be sold at the door. Jesus helps us understand the underlying foundation of good stewardship - trust in our heavenly Father. Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Such a steward knows that all gifts come from God and trusts that in giving them away we are acting as God desires. The weekend of March 7th and 8th, 2014, Good Counsel Homes will be sharing the story of Good Counsel here at Our Lady Queen of Peace and asking for your support for the mothers that have chosen to give their baby life despite what life dictates. The Riverside home is the first home to open in the Southern New Jersey area and has given birth to 33 babies!! You will simply be asked to take a baby bottle home with you, fill it with spare change, dollars, checks, or whatever your means allow, and return it no later then March 30th. ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS The Altar Rosary Society will gather to recite the rosary at 8:30 AM followed by the 9:00 AM Mass on the first of the month and every Friday following the 9:00 AM Mass. All parishioners are invited to pray the rosary for the following intentions: our parish community, world peace, an end to abortion, victims of terrorism, vocations to the priesthood and religious life and the intentions of all present. Come help us discover what happened! Start off this Lenten Season with a unique retreat experience. The Diocese of Trenton Catholic Committees on Scouting and the members of Crew 500 have prepared a retreat for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from the 6th grade and older.
