3 July 26, 2015 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page A Message from the Padre Our Gospel reading this weekend is the story of the Multiplication of Bread and Fish. There is so much to talk about in this Gospel story. Some people would say that this is a miracle story. Yes, it is true that this is a miracle story, but for me, the real miracle lies not only in the multiplication of the bread and fish but also in how the story got started. In our Gospel from John, we are introduced to an unnamed boy, who appeared from nowhere, carrying five barley loaves of bread and two fish. We don't know anything about him, except that he has five barley loaves and two fish food that maybe just enough for his own family's needs. Out of his concern for others, he made a generous gift to a group of people he didn't even know, simply because he saw that they were hungry. Out of the gift he offered came a great miracle. Perhaps we need to realize that this boy s generosity, though small and simple, can open the way for a great miracle. The young boy s gift to Jesus and his friends, made an offering to the gathered community and that resulted in a gift that went far beyond the value of the gift itself. My dear friends, the story of the multiplication of bread and fish is not only about the wonder of its miracle, but it's also about an act of generosity made by one who neither counted the cost nor expected anything in return. The gift of this boy, was and is, an inspiration for all of us today. Let us remember that we do not have to feed all five thousand on our own, but we have to be mindful to offer what we can and trust that God can make wonders and transformations from what we can offer. As we listen now, let us be mindful of all the ways that the Lord feeds us, especially through our brothers and sisters around us. Our Ministry is always open for new members. Please take advantage of this great opportunity to meet our members as you join in the fun. We look forward to seeing you there. In honor of Pope Francis visit to Philadelphia, and his special affection for the piece of art, Mary, Undoer of Knots, Artist Meg Saligman has been commissioned to do an art installation. Meg always includes the community in her artwork, and is inviting people to submit a struggle or prayer. The intentions are to be written on paper cloth strips, which will be placed onto a grotto on the grounds of the Cathedral when the Pope is here. The Pope has been invited to go to the grotto and pray for all the struggles/prayers represented. If you are interested in contributing to this art project, paper strips to submit struggles/prayers will be available after all Masses this weekend, July 25/26.
