3 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page Message from the Padre Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, also called Passion Sunday. Saint Gregory the Great puts Christ s passion this way. He said: " we must sacrifice ourselves to God each day and in everything we do, accepting all that happens to us for his sake, imitating his passion by our sufferings, and honoring his blood by shedding our own and lastly we must also be ready to be crucified." My dear brothers and sisters, the Paschal Mystery, which is the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, is not only Jesus journey but also our journey. It is a time for us not only to recall, but also to re-live in our lives this mystery. In other words, Christians around the world celebrate these events as they happened not only in the past, but as they also happen today. As we receive our palm branches, let us take them to our homes and place them somewhere where we can always see them. Let the palms remind us that Christ is the king of our families that Christ is the king of our hearts and that Christ is the only true answer to our happiness and meaning in our lives. Lastly, let us look and reflect on Jesus passion, as He is welcomed with palms and praises, and hopefully, in Jesus sacrificial death on the cross that we may see the sacredness and glory of his love not only for us, but also for the whole world. In the Passion, which is read now, the crowd is quite the opposite. Our palms still lying on the pew behind us, the crowd has become hostile, shouting Crucify him! to Pilate, painting Jesus as a fraud and a danger. As we listen to Mark s account of the Passion, let us imagine the confidence Jesus had in his Father, enabling him to be obedient to the point of death. 5 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Fasting and Abstinence During Lent Catholics between the ages 18 and 59, are obligated to fast (only one full meal) on Good Friday. When fasting, a person is allowed to eat one full meal or two smaller meals. From the age of 14, Catholics are also obligated to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays during Lent. Page The Parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Peace Welcomes.. Marcella Chiara Riccio (Baptized March 11, 2018) Rosary Altar Society Easter Sunday After the 9:00 and 10:30 AM Masses We are inviting all children from ages 2 through 10 to come to our Parish Easter Egg Hunt on the parish grounds. Parents are asked to accompany their children. THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED Members of the Altar Rosary Society will gather to recite the Rosary on Sunday, April 8th following the 10:30 AM Mass. We would also like to invite all interested women to attend our next monthly meeting which will be held on Tuesday, April 10th at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall. The Knights of Columbus and American Red Cross would like to extend their sincere thanks to all those who supported our annual blood drive. The goal for 2018 was 45 units of blood and we are please to announce that we exceeded our goal by collecting 49 units. With your help and commitment, the Red Cross will be able to provide this life saving gift. Thank you again! Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Religious Education Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. Blue Mass A Celebration of Law Enforcement The 19th Blue Mass and Luncheon (Mass of Law Enforcement) will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, 151 N. Warren St., Trenton, at 10:30 AM, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. The Mass will praise and thank God for the work of those in federal, state, city and municipal protective services. A special remembrance will be offered for those who have died in the line of duty. A luncheon donation of $20 per person is requested. Immediate families of law enforcement personal are free.
