Also, please advise our office staff of any change of address, telephone number or family status. Anointing of the Sick First Saturday of the month after Mass or by request. Please notify the Parish Office as soon as possible when any parishioner becomes seriously ill or is admitted to the hospital. Baptism Baptisms are celebrated after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays upon request. Both first-time parents need to attend a Pre-Jordan class, which is held the first Wednesday of every month. Pre-Registration for the class is required by contacting the Parish Office. Sponsors not from Epiphany are required to submit a Certificate of Eligibility from their parish two weeks prior to the Baptism. Matrimony Notify the Parish Office of your intention to marry at least six months before the date of the wedding to assure sufficient preparation and to arrange for Pre-Cana sessions. That young people in Africa may have access to education and work in their own countries. World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation Saturday, Sept. 1, is World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. In the encyclical Laudato Si, Pope Francis wrote that this annual day of prayer will serve to reaffirm...personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for the protection of creation (Aug. 6, 2015). Blessed are you, O God, Creator of the universe, who have made all things good and given the earth for us to cultivate. Grant that we may always use created things gratefully and share your gift with those in need, out of the love of Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you for ever and ever. Amen. Active Shooter Presentation An Active Shooter Presentation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 7-9 p.m. in St. Helena Parish s Social and Recreation Center. This presentation is designed to prepare individuals in the event they are involved in an active shooter situation. The presentation will be discussing the different mental strategies, as well as response tactics. Individuals will be better prepared to not only ACT but REACT during an active shooter event. The discussion covers associated behaviors, thoughts, and feelings, which may be indicators that someone is disgruntled at their job, in their personal life, or with society. Triggering events that may cause individuals to become an active shooter are also discussed. Active shooter statistics, trends, real incidents are discussed along with why it is vitally important for individuals to have a plan. Audio and visual clips will be utilized to get everyone into the mindset of what may occur during an active shooter situation, and try to realistically have them feel involved. You shall treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the natives born among you; you shall love the alien as yourself; for you too were once aliens in the land of Egypt (Exodus 19:33-34). During his visit to the United States, Pope Francis spoke as a brother to us: We, the people of this continent, are not fearful of foreigners, because most of us were once foreigners. I say this to you as the son of immigrants, knowing that so many of you are also descended from immigrants. And he called on us to remember the Golden Rule: Let us treat others with the same passion and compassion with which we want to be treated. Let us seek for others the same possibilities which we seek for ourselves. Let us help others to grow, as we would like to be helped ourselves. In a word, if we want security, let us give security; if we want life, let us give life; if we want opportunities, let us provide opportunities. Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput said in his homily at a prayer service for immigrants and refugees: It s not enough for us to accept the teachings of the Church about immigration. It s important for us also to embrace those teachings in a passionate kind of way. It s important for us to not be afraid because this is a difficult, complex and controversial issue. Welcoming the stranger is thus intrinsic to the nature of the Church itself and bears witness to its fidelity to the Gospel (Instruction on the Love of Christ toward Migrants, 2004).
