The first meeting of the Regional School Implementation Committee, which includes the other pastors, and two other principals, will be held Jan. 18. Youth Ministry Events High School Youth Group: this Sunday, Jan. 22, from 7-9 p.m. in the Parish Center. All high school teens are invited. Bring a friend. For further information, contact Gail Toto, Parish Youth Minister, at (610) Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Jan , is the annual observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The theme this year is "We will all be changed by the Victory of Our Lord Jesus Christ," (1 Cor. 15:51-58). In the U.S., the annual theme is developed, adapted and published for use by the Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute, a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. 2012's theme is chosen by the Christian churches and communities of Poland. The texts for study, prayer and reflection are the work of the Polish churches along with the joint committee for the Week of Prayer of the Holy See and the World Council of Churches. Christian unity is already a reality in so many ways: in our common proclamation of Scriptures, in our united belief in the Trinity, in our binding dogma of Christ as Saviour and God Incarnate as man, in the sacrament of baptism and, yes, in our belief that the world will be transformed by the Second Coming. A Day of Penance and Prayer In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, Jan. 22 (or Jan. 23, when Jan. 22 falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion. A Scripture Meditation and Prayer will be provided 15 minutes before daily Mass. Adult Faith Formation Will meet in the Parish Center on the following dates: Wednesday, Feb. 29, from 7-9 p.m. Discussion topic is Theology of Suffering. Wednesday, Mar. 21, from 7-9 p. m. 3 Prayer for Christian Unity Lord God, we thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to gather all peoples into the one communion of love and life through your Holy Spirit. We thank you for reminding us in our day to extend every effort to maintain the unity of the followers of Christ for which He so fervently prayed. We ask today that this unity, this gift of the Holy Spirit, be so renewed among our churches that they will overcome obstacles that hinder a fuller expression of this gift and prevent a stronger witness to your love in Christ, through the Spirit with whom You live and reign forever and ever. Amen. Epiphany of Our Lord Church - January 22, 2012, Page 3

Tithing is God s Plan for Giving. This Week s Tithe $ N/A Last Year s Tithe $ 14,861 Children's Tithe $ N/A From the Pastor: How lovely our church looked during the Christmas season! We are so grateful to so many wonderful volunteers who decorated the church, especially the sanctuary, and most especially the nativity scene, which was blessed during our earlier Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve. Thank you to Gloria Leidig, our Art and Environment coordinator, and to all who assisted her during set up and take down for their efforts on our behalf. From the Pews: Tithing doesn t mean we have to give up what we have; it s about giving enough. The vocabulary of our faith invites us to the table at every Mass for a spiritual meal; this church is our house, and the people seated in front of and behind us are not just familiar faces. They are the family with whom we share our gifts. Epiphany of Our Lord Church - January 22, 2012, Page 4

7 Epiphany of Our Lord School News 3040 Walton Road Plymouth Meeting, PA Office Phone: / Tours and Information: Website: A Note from the Principal We have a cover girl! Erin Mahady was recently interviewed and photographed by the local newspapers. Her entry was chosen for the Drug Awareness Calendar. Her drawing is lovely and in her interview she is articulate and confident. She and her family got to visit Harrisburg for an awards ceremony. We were excited to receive calendars for the students. We are so proud of Erin. We have a study group that meets weekly to prepare for the SATs. These seventh graders have switched from High School Entrance exams to the real SATs. They were surprised how much harder the tests were as was I. How did I ever get into college? The children were quick to point out how important it is to have an extensive vocabulary. I think that is probably the best advice anyone can receive to prepare for any entrance test. How astute the students of Epiphany are! Please remember in prayer all participants in the March for Life. School News KINDERGARTEN: MRS. KONESKI: The kindergarten learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and what a great man he was. They made a craft called "I Have a Dream." In Religion and Science they are learning about their senses. They know God gave them their senses to discover the world. They are taste testing, listening to sounds, playing "What's inside the box?," and smelling some spices from the kitchen. What a fun week we had! 1ST GRADE: MRS. DUNSMORE: Our first grade students are looking forward to the classroom "Camp In." The children are reading a story titled the "Camp In" in their anthologies. Working together, we will recreate a campground setting in our classroom. Parents are being invited to share in the festivities. Some of the rotating centers will involve storytelling in 2 tents, fishing for math facts, making a camping art project, writing and illustrating about the joys of camping and last but not least enjoying smores pop tarts and hot chocolate. The little ones will have the opportunity to bring their favorite stuffed animal with them to share this fun filled camping experience. 2ND GRADE: MRS. MORASCO: We will begin to discuss how Jesus gives Himself in the Eucharist in religion. We will continue to learn about the States of Matter in science. We will conclude the unit in math on doubledigit addition and subtraction. 3RD GRADE: MS. PALCKO: The children finished reading the book "Chocolate Touch." We also read about an "Ice Hotel" in Sweeden. The children thought that was amazing. In Science we did some fun experiments to show "How Things Move" and "How Objects Change Positions." 4TH GRADE: MS. CATANIA: My fourth graders will be making equations with the operations of multiplication and division.
