Please notify the rectory as soon as possible when any parishioner becomes seriously ill or is admitted to the hospital. Baptism Baptisms are celebrated after the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays upon request. Both first-time parents need to attend a Pre-Jordan class, which is held the first Wednesday of every month. Pre-Registration for the class is required by contacting the Parish Office. Sponsors not from Epiphany are required to submit a Certificate of Eligibility from their parish two weeks prior to the Baptism. Matrimony Notify the priest of your intention to marry at least six months before the date of the wedding to assure sufficient preparation and to arrange for Pre-Cana sessions. Miraculous Medal Perpetual Novena After 8:30 a.m. Mass every Saturday. Holy Communion for the Sick and Homebound Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are available to bring Communion to the sick and homebound. 4 Mary, Mother of the Church Pope Francis has deemed that the Church celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as Mother of the Church every year on the Monday after Pentecost, as a way to foster Marian piety and the maternal sense of the Church, the Vatican announced in March. The memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, has been added to the General Roman Calendar, the Roman Missal and the Liturgy of the Hours. The Marian title of Mother of the Church was given to the Blessed Mother by Blessed Paul VI at the Second Vatican Council. 5 From the Pastor To Jesus through Mary, our heavenly mother whom we venerate especially this month, is a sure path to holiness. Reflecting on the call to holiness in his apostolic exhortation Gaudete et Exultate (Rejoice and Be Glad), March 19 of this year (the Solemnity of St. Joseph), Pope Francis referred to a great cloud of witnesses, who may include our own mothers, grandmothers or other loves ones, taking that path. Their lives may not always have been perfect, yet even amid their faults and failings they kept moving forward and proved pleasing to the Lord. In many holy marriages, too, each spouse becomes a means used by Christ for sanctification of the other. Living or working alongside others is surely a path of spiritual growth, Pope Francis noted. The first miracle that Jesus performed was through the intervention of his mother. At the wedding of Cana, when the wine ran short, Mary said to Jesus, They have no wine (John 2:3). To the servers Mary said, Do whatever he tells you (John 2:5). The transformation of water into wine, the first of seven signs or wondrous deeds of Jesus recorded by the evangelist, symbolizes the entire transforming work or ministry of Jesus. Marian devotion like the Holy Rosary, after whom our regional school is named, and the annual May Procession, with the crowing of Mary s statue, enhances our response to the call to holiness. Our annual observance of Mother s Day enhances our response to the fourth commandment, the only commandment with a promise, Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land which the Lord your God is giving you (Ex. 20:12; Dt. 5:16). I would like these reflections to be crowned by Mary, because she lived the Beatitudes of Jesus as none other, Pope Francis concluded. She is that woman who rejoiced in the presence of God, who treasured everything in her heart, and who let herself be pierced by the sword. Mary is the saint among the saints, blessed above all others. She teaches us the way of holiness and she walks ever at our side. She does not let us remain fallen and at times takes us into her arms without judging us. Our converse with her consoles, frees and sanctifies us. Mary our Mother does not need a flood of words. She does not need us to tell her what is happening in our lives. All we need to do is whisper time and time again: Hail Mary (Gaudate et Exultate, 176).
