2 Candlelight Christmas Concerts GAUDEAMUS will be performing their annual candlelight Christmas concerts on the following dates: Epiphany of Our Lord Church Plymouth Meeting Sunday, December 9, 2012 ~ 7:30 pm St. Francis of Assisi Church, Norristown Sunday, December 16, 2012 ~ 3:00 pm GAUDEAMUS is a ten-piece musical group featuring Connie Cannon Steuer as pianist, Sarah Agnew Norman and Kelly Brobson as vocalists, and an ensemble of professional musicians. The concerts will consist of sacred, traditional and classical Christmas music and will include many of your holiday favorites! Both concerts are free and open to the public. 4 Retirement Fund for Religious Our annual national Retirement Fund for Religious appeal will take place this weekend, Dec Sisters of St. Joseph Of the 877 (901 this time last year) Sisters of St. Joseph in the Congregation, at least 571 sisters are over the age of retired members reside at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown 40 retired members reside at the Motherhouse in Chestnut Hill and our active senior houses. 332 retired members live in other local communities. Their ministries include their dedicated response to their mission of unity and reconciliation with a special preference for the poor. They minister in 14 states, the District of Columbia and Canada in educational, social, spiritual and health care. As of 2012, the Sisters of St. Joseph are present at: 16 colleges/universities, 25 high schools, 50 elementary schools, 4 pre-schools/child care centers and 2 programs for the developmentally disabled. The needs within the Church have also called them into other ministries: 120 parishes and 14 spiritual centers 46 social service sites and 25 health care facilities 5 minister to immigrants and those who are poor at the SSJ Welcome Center located in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. As a Congregation, they sponsor Chestnut Hill College, Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Norwood-Fontbonne Academy, St. Joseph Academy Pre-School and Cares Program, SSJ Earth Center, Bethlehem Retirement Village, Academy Village, St. Joseph Village, Cecilian Village, Saint Joseph Villa, SSJ Welcome Center, SSJ Center for Spirituality, and St. Mary by-the-sea. Recitation of the Rosary During Advent, the daily recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7:50 a.m. followed by Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours and Mass at 8:30 a.m. Epiphany 55 There will NOT be a meeting of Epiphany 55 on Tuesday, Dec. 11, because of the luncheon this day. Advent When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior s first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming. By celebrating the precursor s birth and martyrdom, the Church unites herself to his desire: He must increase, but I must decrease (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 524). 5 Advent Wreath Lighting At each Sunday Mass during Advent, a family will be invited to light the Advent Wreath, and carry the gifts in the Offertory Procession. Serve Our Neighbor Christmas Giving Tree The Giving Tree is on display in the Church vestibule. The tags on the tree will be gifts for Project H.O.M.E.'s After School Program in North Philadelphia and gifts for the St. Elizabeth's Shelter for homeless men. Gifts purchased should be placed in gift bags (with the tag attached) and placed under the tree no later than the 11:30 a.m. Mass this Sunday, Dec. 9. For more information, call Kathy at (610) Monthly Vigil for Life This vigil will start with Mass on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 a.m. at St. John Evangelist Church, 13th and Market Sts., Philadelphia, followed by clergy-led prayerful presence at a nearby abortion center. Participants pray the rosary for the unborn. Sponsored by The Helpers of God's Precious Infants. Drivers Needed Our parishioners who live at Sunrise on Blue Bell Penllyn Pike are able to attend the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday due to the generosity and kindness of our volunteer drivers. Would you consider being a driver once a month or an occasional substitute driver, if needed? You are needed to serve Christ in your neighbor. We will be celebrating the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Christmas on Sunday, Dec.16, from 7-9 p.m. in the Parish Center. Bring a new toy. Toys will be given to Catholic Social Services on Johnson Hwy. to give to less fortunate children in Montgomery County. Junior High Youth Group Theme: The Meaning of Christmas! Sunday, Dec. 23, from 7-9 p.m. in the Parish Center All 7 th and 8 th graders are invited to attend. High School and Junior High Youth Groups Montgomery County Catholic Social Services Christmas Service Event Teens from Montgomery County Parishes are asked to help at a Christmas Event at the CSS location on Johnson Hwy. (St. Paul s Church). Teens will host a party where less fortunate children in Montgomery County will be invited to come and pick out one new toy for Christmas. For many of these children this will be the only toy they receive. Teens are asked to dress as elves (possibly Santa) or wear red and green. Please consider signing up for either day. Also In place of Operation Santa Clause that ended with the closing of the Office of Youth and Young Adults, Catholic Social Services wants to start a scaled down version for Montgomery County. EOL Youth Group will be collecting new unwrapped toys and they will be hand delivered at an upcoming event. Please consider donating a toy for local child. She picked some simple leaves, and when she reached the church, they had turned to beautiful red. When we give out of love, God makes even our most simple gifts special. Legion of Mary The Legion of Mary of our parish continues to visit all the homes, Catholic and non-catholic, as part of our Evangelization Program. When they call on your family, please receive them kindly into your homes, as you would receive Christ. Baptism Baptisms are celebrated after the 11:30 a.m. Mass every Sunday, with the option of baptism during the 11:30 a.m. Mass on the fifth Sunday of the month. Both parents must attend a Pre-Jordan class, which is held the first Wednesday of every month. Pre-Registration for the class is required by contacting the rectory. Sponsors are required to submit a Certificate of Eligibility from their parish two weeks prior to the baptism. Marriage Notify the priest of your intention to marry at least six months before the date of the wedding to assure sufficient preparation and to arrange for Pre -Cana sessions. Pre-Cana Days are held in April and October. ANOINTING OF THE SICK First Saturday of the month during 8:30 a.m. Mass or by special request. Please notify the rectory as soon as possible when any parishioner becomes seriously ill or is admitted to the hospital.
