This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917.

The Holy Father reminds us that we are sent to our brothers and sisters in order to bear witness of our faith in Christ and to proclaim His Gospel. By our baptism, we are all called to be Missionary disciples. Pope Francis exhorts us repeatedly to go out of the temple s sacred walls and to make sure that our Church becomes a Mission-centered Church. We are challenged to go forth from our own comfort zone in order to reach all the peripheries in need of the light of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium; 20). Your prayers and financial help, through the Pontifical Mission Society for the Propagation of the Faith, will provide resources to the countless faith-filled Missionaries who bring the Gospel to 1,108 Catholic Mission Dioceses, serving as the Church s witness to Christ through their care for the poor and most vulnerable. 5 Habits of Health Workshop By Mary Beth Enslin, R.N., M.B.A., M.S. Pulpit Announcement Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2017 Thank you for the opportunity to be here on Respect for Life Sunday. It's actually good timing as I think about what I am here to share with you. Each week I would come to church and pray for pretty much the same things - to be healthy, because I couldn't figure out why I couldn't create health in my life when I am a nurse, a clinical scientist, and well educated; I prayed for happiness - for me, for my family, and I prayed for better finances so I didn't have to feel strapped living pay check to pay check and being able to give my kids the things that I thought that they needed to have in their lives. About three years ago, I learned how to create health in my life by learning the Habits of Health, which include habits of healthy eating, getting restful sleep, the importance of physical activities, and strategies to gain clarity in thinking. I found that incorporating small daily changes helped me to lose 98 pounds in nine months and gave me my confidence back that I didn t realize I had lost, and this was over two years ago. One of the things that I realized is that when you find something that works for you, it s a gift, and you need to share that gift with others. Many people that I speak with pretty much say that they pray for health as well, whether it is for themselves or their families. So, as we talk about respect for life, I would like to focus it on respect for our lives: learning how to eat healthy, think healthy, and live healthy. I will lead a four-week class which will be Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. in the Parish Center beginning Oct. 18. Everyone is welcome. There is no cost to attend. This is about sharing information on how to create health in your life. It's time that we all get healthy.
