Please notify the Parish Office as soon as possible when any parishioner becomes seriously ill or is admitted to the hospital. Baptism Baptisms are celebrated after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays upon request. Both first-time parents need to attend a Pre-Jordan class, which is held the first Wednesday of every month. Pre-Registration for the class is required by contacting the Parish Office. Sponsors not from Epiphany are required to submit a Certificate of Eligibility from their parish two weeks prior to the Baptism. Matrimony Notify the Parish Office of your intention to marry at least six months before the date of the wedding to assure sufficient preparation and to arrange for Pre-Cana sessions. Holy Communion for the Sick and Homebound Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are available to bring Communion to the sick and homebound. Archdiocesan Pastoral Council The reform of the Code of Canon Law, together with the proclamation of the Second Vatican Council, was announced by Pope John XXIII on Jan.

2 Archdiocesan Pastoral Council The reform of the Code of Canon Law, together with the proclamation of the Second Vatican Council, was announced by Pope John XXIII on Jan. 25, 1959, the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, Apostle. The Second Vatican Council convened on Oct. 11, 1962, and closed on Dec. 8, It was the Church s 21st Ecumenical Council, which was held during four sessions. It comprises 16 documents in the form of Constitutions (4), Decrees (9) and Declarations (3). The revised Code of Canon Law was published on Jan. 25, 1983, effective the First Sunday of Advent. It comprises 1752 canons in seven books. Canons 511 to 514 provide for an (arch) diocesan pastoral council. Since the pastoral council functions in accordance with the provisions of the statutes drawn up by the Bishop (Canon 513), Archbishop Chaput promulgated statutes for the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) on Feb. 15, 2012, the first APC in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. According to archdiocesan statutes, in addition to ex-officio, clergy, religious, young adult and at-large members, one lay person shall be selected from each of the 12 deaneries of the fivecounty Archdiocese, all of whom are appointed by the Archbishop. The laity are selected for a term of three years from a list of nominees developed by the 12 deans, APC members and the Archbishop s staff. Deans likewise solicit nominations from pastors in their respective deaneries. Meetings are held four times a year. The Pastoral Council Canons In each diocese, in so far as pastoral circumstances suggest, a pastoral council is to be established. Its function, under the authority of the Bishop, is to study and weigh those matters which concern the pastoral works in the diocese, and to propose practical conclusions concerning them A pastoral council is composed of members of Christ s faithful who are in full communion with the catholic Church: clerics, members of institutes of consecrated life, and especially lay people. They are designated in the manner determined by the diocesan Bishop. The members of Christ s faithful assigned to the pastoral council are to be selected in such a way that the council truly reflects the entire portion of the people of God which constitutes the diocese, taking account of the different regions of the diocese, of social conditions and professions, and of the part played in the apostolate by the members, whether individually or in association with others. Only those members of Christ s faithful who are outstanding in firm faith, high moral standards and prudence are to be assigned to the pastoral council The pastoral council is appointed for a determinate period, in accordance with the provisions of the statutes drawn up by the Bishop. When the see is vacant, the pastoral council lapses The pastoral council has only a consultative vote. It is for the diocesan Bishop alone to convene it, according to the needs of the apostolate, and to preside over it. He alone has the right to make public the matters dealt with in the council. March 3, 2019 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Like many other places throughout the world, Latin American Catholics face many challenges as they strive to live and share their faith.

5 March 3, 2019 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Like many other places throughout the world, Latin American Catholics face many challenges as they strive to live and share their faith. Although the people are faith-filled, the needs in this region of the world are great and can often seem insurmountable. The distance in rural areas and deteriorated roads make it difficult for some communities to have Mass regularly. Language barriers and lack of resources make catechetical materials difficult to produce. We are called to share our faith with all, and this collection is a prophetic and bold way to do so. In Cuba, in the Archdiocese of San Cristobal de la Habana, the Church is not present in many of the smaller or rural communities. For many years, there were no ministers and there was no mission house not to mention a church building to which the people could turn. The message of the Gospel could not spread, because there were very few messengers to share it and few places where people could go to hear it. But with your support, pastoral agents have received training to bring the Gospel to these areas and neighborhoods. Your support has helped bring people to the Church, through religious education and retreats, and the Church to the people, through evangelization efforts and the repair of church buildings. This has given them the hope and the joy of the Gospel. The Collection for the Church in Latin America, through projects like these pastoral agents training programs, as well as catechesis programs, empowers the faithful of Latin America to deepen their faith and share it with each other and the world. Our Archdiocese will take up this collection the weekend of March 9 and 10, Please be generous and take this opportunity to share your faith with the families of Latin America and the Caribbean. Holy Rosary Review Our fifth grade, under the attentive eye of their teacher Mrs. Fran Luthy, is working on several different writing projects.

This series geared toward the middle school student tells the incredible stories of trailblazers, legends, innovators, and creators.

Their current project is 2 Voice Poems where two characters are chosen from a story (for example the Wicked Queen and Snow White) and every other stanza is written by one of the two chosen

6 Holy Rosary Review Our fifth grade, under the attentive eye of their teacher Mrs. Fran Luthy, is working on several different writing projects. They just finished crafting their mini-biographies modeled after the Who Was? series. This series geared toward the middle school student tells the incredible stories of trailblazers, legends, innovators, and creators. The cover of the book features the very large realistic head of the famous person sitting upon a tiny body in action. The fifth graders began the project by interviewing a classmate and then writing their biography. The student featured in the profile then designed and decorated the cover of their book. Each student then had a picture taken of their head and they enjoyed the process of setting it upon the body caricature they created. Their current project is 2 Voice Poems where two characters are chosen from a story (for example the Wicked Queen and Snow White) and every other stanza is written by one of the two chosen characters, who respond with opposing views. The students are expected to maintain their chosen rhyme scheme, while making sure the topic of choice remains the focal response throughout the poem. In addition, the students will concentrate on adding figurative language to their poems. Finally, the students will wind up their February writing with original poetry centered on the theme of the environment. The finished product will be submitted to Whitpain Township for their Earth Day Contest. Never a dull moment in 5th grade English!
