This year s theme is: I Will Build My Church (Mt. 16:18). 40 Days for Life Peaceful Prayer and Vigil Movement Christians throughout the Norristown and surrounding communities are invited to take part in the national and international 40 Days for Life prayer and vigil campaign from Sept. 24 through Nov. 2, sponsored by the Missionaries of the Gospel of life. In addition to 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion in America, please consider volunteering to pray outside of Norristown's Planned Parenthood, located at 1221 Powell & Wood Sts. We are requesting one or more hours during the 40 days. Please spread the word to others about this important life-saving effort. Peter says he witnessed Christ s sufferings and shares in the glory to be revealed. James, the brother of the Lord and head of the Jerusalem church, witnessed the risen Jesus. Jude was James brother. They wrote four letters to strengthen the faith of second and third generation Christians scattered across the turbulent Roman Empire. Those same letters, part of our inspired Scripture, might strengthen our faith in these troubled days. Why not join us in giving them a try? Gaudeamus Music Ministry Fundraising Event An Evening of Wine and Music will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 7-10 p.m. at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School. Two local non-profit organizations, Angel Flight East and Gaudeamus Music Ministry are partnering for a unique fund-raising event which will benefit children and adults. The event will feature Karamoor Estate Wines; hors d oeuvres, a special musical concert by GAUDEAMUS, coffee and dessert. Proceeds benefit the Knights of Columbus State Scholarship Fund. October Count In 1990, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia inaugurated the practice of counting attendance at weekend Masses during the month of October. The purpose of the October Count is to monitor trends in attendance throughout the Archdiocese and, in doing so, obtain a picture of the Archdiocese that is very useful for long range planning. In past years, many pastors found this procedure to be enlightening and useful for their own parochial ministries. Experience suggests that the average weekend Mass attendance for the weekends of October be used as a standard count. The total attendance of all counts is then divided by four or five weeks depending on the year, resulting in the average October Count. This must be an actual physical count, not estimation. Youth Group Halloween Event Junior High Youth Group. All 7th and 8th graders. Join us next Sunday, Oct. 26 (please note NOT Oct. 28) from 7-9 p.m. in the Parish Center. Friends are welcome. American Red Cross Blood Drive Our next parish Blood Drive will be held Friday, Oct. 31, from 2-7 p.m. in Grady Hall. All who are able (at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and are healthy) are encouraged to donate blood frequently (56 days minimum between donations). If you have specific questions about your eligibility, you may call the Red Cross toll free at GIVE LIFE. If you have been told that you are anemic (low iron) you can increase your red cell count by eating more high-iron foods such as red meat, fish, poultry, liver, iron-fortified cereals, beans, raisins, and prunes. The Red Cross will be accepting DOUBLE RED BLOOD CELL donations at this Blood Drive. This process takes about 20 minutes longer. Blood types needed are O and B. Donors must meet certain weight, height, and iron level requirements. Males min.130 lbs., 5' 1" tall. Females: min. 155 lbs., 5'5" tall. Iron level: 40% or higher hemotocrit.
