Please notify the Parish Office as soon as possible when any parishioner becomes seriously ill or is admitted to the hospital. Baptism Baptisms are celebrated after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays upon request. Both first-time parents need to attend a Pre-Jordan class, which is held the first Wednesday of every month. Pre-Registration for the class is required by contacting the Parish Office. Sponsors not from Epiphany are required to submit a Certificate of Eligibility from their parish two weeks prior to the Baptism. Matrimony Notify the Parish Office of your intention to marry at least six months before the date of the wedding to assure sufficient preparation and to arrange for Pre-Cana sessions. Miraculous Medal Perpetual Novena After Mass every Saturday. Holy Communion for the Sick and Homebound Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are available to bring Communion to the sick and homebound. Yet, words really do matter. Words can heal or hurt, help or hinder, attract or repel. Words can endear us to one another or alienate from one another. Consider words like I love you, or I m sorry. I apologize, or words like please and thank you, and the impact they have on our relationships with others. Today we give thanks to God as a nation for the countless blessings, favors and graces that God has bestowed upon us. We pledge allegiance to Old Glory as one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. We pray that God bless America. On this feast day of St. Cecilia 55 years ago, out nation s first Catholic president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was assassinated. The words he spoke in his Inaugural Address summoned Americans to Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. We believers Christians, Muslims and Jews alike might paraphrase those words with these, Ask not what God can do for you. Ask what you can do for God. What we Catholic Christians can do for God is to offer Him the worship, glory, adoration and praise that is His due by celebrating the Eucharist a word meaning thanksgiving as Jesus taught us to do. Perhaps we can all empathize with Jesus sentiments in today s gospel, when only one of the 10 lepers on whom He had pity and healed returned to thank Him. And, he was a Samaritan. Ten were cleansed, were they not? Jesus said in reply. Where are the other nine? He inquired. Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God? As members of the family of God, may our prayers of thanksgiving reach the ears of the Almighty today. As the late Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C. (Congregation of the Holy Cross), the renowned rosary priest, advised us in words that really do matter, The family that prays together, stays together. 3 A Reflection on Governance The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Nov. 25, 2018 By Father Quindlen This month s mid-term elections provided us who are old enough to vote an opportunity to participate in our nation s democratic form of government of, by, and for the people. Citizens of some other countries are not so fortunate as we are. Countries ruled by totalitarian regimes prohibit their citizens from exercising their right to vote. With freedom comes responsibility. With responsibility comes obligation. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, It is morally obligatory to pay taxes, to exercise the right to vote, and to defend one s country (224). The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in their document titled, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, subtitled A Call to Political Responsibility, challenged Catholics who have a serious and lifelong obligation to form their consciences, to do so in accord with human reason and the teaching of the Church. The bishops explained, Conscience is the voice of God resounding in the human heart, revealing the truth to us, and calling us to do what is good while shunning what is evil. Conscience always requires serious attempts to make sound moral judgments based on the truths of our faith (17). If it s true that all politics is local, could we not extend that perception to include religion as well, inasmuch as all those who believe in God Christians, Muslims and Jews alike worship together in their local churches, mosques or synagogues. Freedom, responsibility and obligation necessitate participating in our democracy and practicing our faith. When it comes to politics and religion, the choice is ours to use them, lose them, or abuse them. Today s solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe provides us an opportunity to reflect on how God governs His people. The Father, who created us in His image and likeness, sent His Son, Jesus, who was priest, prophet and king, to save and redeem us. The Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, sanctifies us by empowering us to become holy. Jesus, the king of the universe and ruler of the world, is the servant leader who shepherds the flock, guards the faithful, and who founded the Church as a vehicle for our salvation. The Son of Man received dominion, glory, and kingship; all peoples, nations and languages serve Him, we learn from the prophet Daniel. His dominion is an everlasting dominion and His kingship shall not be destroyed. From the Book of Revelation, we learn that Jesus Christ is the faithful witness who has made us into a kingdom. The kingdom into which Jesus made us does not belong to this world, we learn from the lips of Jesus Himself. Everyone who belongs to the truth, Jesus said, listens to His voice. Holidays together are especially fun. Probably the most wonderful activity they share is attending Mass together each month for First Friday.

It is even more special to see the look of love for their partner on the younger faces. Often prayer partner relationships last even beyond graduation from elementary school.
