Annunciation Parish Inclement Weather Policy In the event of snow or other severe weather conditions that cause school to be closed, information will be broadcast on television (Channel 5, 9, or 12). In this case, ANNUNCIA- TION CATHOLIC SCHOOL will be announced. On any day that Annunciation School is closed due to weather, our entire Annunciation Parish campus will be closed all day and evening. There will be no morning Mass, all activities/meetings/practices, etc., will be canceled, and all offices closed. Annunciation School Faith Formation News All students and faculty, preschool-8th grade, will join our parish community this Wednesday morning, December 12th, for the celebration of Mass on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Thursday, December 13th, is the feast of Saint Lucy, our second grade patron saint. Our weekly celebration of Morning Prayer with students and faculty, preschool-8th grade, is Thursday, December 13th at 9:30 a.m. in church. All are welcome to join us for prayer! For more information about Faith Formation at Annunciation School, please contact our Director of Faith Formation, Dr. Sandi Chakeres at Pray for Persecuted Christians! Please remember to pray everyday for our Brothers and Sisters who experience hardship, suffering, and persecution for our Christian faith. Christmas Flower Fund You once again this year have an opportunity to make a donation to our Christmas Flower Fund in memory of a loved one. An envelope is included in your monthly packet of envelopes, and also are available at the doors of church. Please make sure and note in whose memory, or honor, flowers are being donated. For donations received by Sunday, December 16, names of those being remembered will be included in our December 23 Sunday bulletin. 2 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 9, 2018 Join Us For Easter 2019! The Sacred Paschal Triduum, the highpoint of our entire Church Year, will be celebrated sundown Thursday, April 18 to sundown Sunday, April 21. As a parish community, it is important that we celebrate the Triduum together. Mark your calendars and plan your schedules now, so that all family members can join us for the great liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord! Our Lady of Guadalupe In the Church in the United States of America, on December 12 we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On this feast day we are celebrating the appearances, or apparitions, of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Juan Diego in Mexico on December 9-12, Pope Pius XII declared Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, as the Patroness of the Americas. On March 25, 1999, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments raised this feast day to the rank of feast for all the countries of the Americas. In Spanish de Guadalupe means she will crush the serpent of stone. The Aztec word for this is Tecoatlaxope. When the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, she was dressed as an Aztec princess, and had sash around her waist, which indicated she was pregnant. If you recall from the story of Saint Juan Diego, Mary gave Juan a message to deliver to the bishop to build a chapel at the site of her appearance. The bishop did not believe Juan at first, and eventually demanded proof. This proof came in the form of roses growing in the dead of winter, as well as the image of Mary, exactly as she had appeared to Juan Diego, on Juan Diego s tilma, or cloak. The bishop did build a chapel on the site, as Mary requested. Today you can visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico and see Juan Diego s tilma, with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, on display.
