When we exploit creation, we destroy that sign of God s love. To destroy creation is to say to God: I don t care. And this is not good: this is sin. Daily Reflection Thursday Custody of Creation Custody of creation is precisely custody of God s gift and it is saying to God: Thank you, I an the guardian of creation so as to make it progress, never to destroy your gift. This must be our attitude to creation: guard it for if we destroy creation, creation will destroy us! Friday Beautiful Creation When our eyes are illumined by the spirit, they open to contemplate God, in the beauty of nature and in the grandeur of the cosmos, and they lead us to discover how everything speaks to us about him and his love. Romans 10:1 Stewardship of Finances Offertory (July 30-31, 2016) $ 1, My brothers and sisters in Christ, As you know, the students of St. Landry Parish return to school this week. Please keep all students teachers in your prayers as they begin the new school year. Please see the insert of this year s Fiscal Report. You ll notice that we ended up in the red, but minus the cemetery expenses acquired in early July of 2015, the gap was just a few hundred dollars. We re blessed that through the Lord s providence and the generosity of you - our parishioners and friends - our needs were able to be met. Remember what St. Paul tells us: God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. (2 Cor 2:9) Let s thank God for making that true for us a Parish! The Solemnity of Our Lady s Assumption into Heaven on August 15 is approaching. It is not a holy day of obligation this year because it falls on a Monday. We will have our regularly-scheduled Mass at 5:30pm. Also, because of the incredibly successful turnout of last year s Fete Dieu du Teche in honor of the 250 th anniversary of the arrival of the Acadians in LA, the Fete Dieu deu Teche will be held again this year on Monday, August 15. Holy Mass will be celebrated in French by Bishop Deshotel at 8am at St. Leo Church in Leonville, and the Eucharistic Procession down the Teche will begin from there. You can see the locations where Benediction will be celebrated on the map below. What a true blessing and occasion of grace for our Diocese! Let us join the whole Church in celebrating our mother Mary s entrance into eternal glory, praying that where she has gone before us, we may one day follow. Thanks. St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery There is a display board at the Church entrance which has information concerning a new mausoleum program for St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery. This is a survey to see if there is enough interest to proceed with the design, sales and construction of a new mausoleum. The information shows a rendering of the proposed mausoleum along with information concerning the cost of spaces and the financing that will be available. Also with the display board is a signup sheet for those interested in getting more information. If enough families are interested we will announce the results and let the families know when a program might begin. You are not obligated to purchase any spaces at this time, this is only to determine the interest of our families. 5 Volume 62, Number 32, Page 5 Saints of the Week Mon., August 8: Saint Dominic, Priest: d. 6 August 1221; born in Caleruega, Spain; founded the Order of Preachers, today numbering some 6,550 religious; an elective, fraternal form of community life devoted to contemplation, study, and preaching and living evangelical poverty; Order s ideal: Contemplari et contemplate aliis tradere; canonized in Tues., August 9: Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Virgin, Martyr: Edith Stein was bron in Breslau, Germany in 1891 of Jewish parents. She studied philosophy under Husserl. Inspired by the writings of St. Teresa of Avila, she was baptized 1 January She taught in various schools from 1923 to 1933 until forced to resign due to anti-semitic legislation. In 1933, she entered the Discalced Carmelite convert in Cologne where she received the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. At the end of 1939, she moved to the convent at Echt, Holland, on account of the Nazi persecution of Jews, but in 1942, during the German occupation of Holland, she was arrested, transported to Poland, and killed (9 August) at the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz. Her writings include Finite and Eternal Being: An Attempt to an Ascent to the Meaning of Being; Philosophy of Psychology and the Humanities, & The Science of the Cross. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster.
