This means respect for every living thing, but especially for every man made in the image of God. Respect for man even in his blindness and in his confusion, even when he may do evil. For we must see that the meaning of man has been totally changed by the Crucifixion: every man is Christ on the Cross, whether he realizes it or not. But we must learn to realize it. Tuesday Children of God All around the world people are looking for meaning and finding it in strange, even destructive places. The world needs men and women who are so in love and so convinced of the truth that they cannot help but share it with others in word and deed, Wednesday Children of God That they cannot help but make Christ present in the world. More than anything else, if what we do enables us to live with evangelical zeal for the sake of the world, we just might be doing what we are called to do. Listen with the ears; see with the eyes of God. Daily Reflection Thursday Life Is Amazing Life is amazing. All life is utterly dependent upon our planet for everything it needs. God provides everything through creation. Water falls from the sky and runs through creeks and rivers. Plants and animals grow and are all part of the circle of life. Air circulates around the globe, refreshing and renewing all of life s creatures. The sun, trees, plants, oil, coal and gas provide energy. The beauty of creation grabs our attention, inspiring us. Friday Life Is Amazing And providing for our needs. God truly cares for us like a mother cares for her children and expresses this care through the goodness of creation. Saturday Christ Within Us It is Christ in us who drives us through darkness to a light of which we have no conception and which can only be found by passing through apparent despair. Everything has to be tested. All relationships have to be tried. All loyalties have to pass through fire. Much has to be lost. Much in us has to be killed, even much that is best in us. But victory is certain. The Resurrection is the only light and with that light there is no error. It is my hope that the inspiration of Saint Francis will help us to keep ever alive a sense of fraternity with all those good and beautiful things which Almighty God has created. 3 Volume 64, Number 17, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Again, I want to offer congratulations to all those who made their First Communion last Sunday. It is certainly a big moment in your faith you will never forget! That means there is one more sacrament left for this season, Confirmation! That will be this Thursday night, April 26 th, at 6:30pm. We are very happy to have Bishop Deshotel come to our parish to administer this holy sacrament, and we are praying for our Confirmation candidates to be open to this gift of the Spirit. Finally, in our look at the Catechism, we move away from looking at the Canon of Scripture and move onto a new section: Scripture in the Life of the Church! This section gives us one important reminder: Scripture is not a dead word! It is very much alive, being the Word of God and all. And it should have a special place in our lives because it certainly has a special place in the life of the Church herself! The Church s very liturgy treats the Bible with great reverence. In the same way, as the Catechism illustrates below, we need to treat the Bible with great reverence and make sure it does not gather dust on the shelf. It reminds me of what a priest once said in an online blog, talking about how we should treat our Bible: we should treat it like we do our cell phones! The following is a list of reflective questions the priest put on his blog to show what he means. Maybe if we treated our Bibles the same way, it would have greater meaning in our lives. I invite you to take these questions to prayer and see how you can treat your Bible in this way: What if we carried our Bible around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn t live without it? What if we gave it to kids as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of emergency? Unlike our cell phone, we don t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill. IV. Sacred Scripture in the Life of the Church #131 "and such is the force and power of the Word of God that it can serve the Church as her support and vigour, and the children of the Church as strength for their faith, food for the soul, and a pure and lasting fount of spiritual life." 109 Hence "access to Sacred Scripture ought to be open wide to the Christian faithful." 110 #132 "Therefore, the study of the sacred page should be the very soul of sacred theology. the ministry of the Word, too - pastoral preaching, catechetics and all forms of Christian instruction, among which the liturgical homily should hold pride of place - is healthily nourished and thrives in holiness through the Word of Scripture." 111 #133 The Church "forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful... to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Msgr. Glen John Provost, a native of Lafayette, was serving as Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima, when he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to serve as the third Bishop of the Diocese of Lake Charles. Bishop Provost was ordained by Archbishop Hughes of New Orleans. His Co- Consecrators were Bishop Jarrell and Bishop Speyrer, who served as the first Bishop of Lake Charles. Bishop Jarrell and Bishop Speyrer are both native sons to the Diocese, from Opelousas and Leonville respectively. The year 2018 is joyous and wonderful for in this year we are privileged to celebrate 100 years of Catholicism, 100 years of spreading the Love of God to the people of South Louisiana by providing the sacraments, celebrating Mass, encouraging the afflicted, visiting the sick and comforting the dying. These have been 100 years of blessing for all of us who have had the privilege to be the face of God to the people of Acadiana. As we celebrate, however, it is also important to recognize that there have been times when those who have been called to ministry in order that the Lord s forgiveness, healing and peace may be experienced by all, have been the cause of much pain and suffering within our community. In order that through the joy of our celebration, those who have been hurt by the Church s ministers may not be forgotten, Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel and the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette wish to recognize, as part of our Century of Love, those among us who deserve our continued prayers, support and love as they heal from the wounds of abuse at the hands of those, who, by virtue of orders, were called to be ministers of the Church. To this end, at a prayer service for all victims of abuse in any form, Bishop Deshotel invites the people of the Diocese of Lafayette to join him in a Eucharistic Prayer Service and a dedication of a monument that will serve as a reminder to all of our constant need to keep in prayer all those who have been hurt by the Church s ministers. The Prayer Service and Dedication Ceremony will take place at 6pm on Friday, April 27, 2018 in front of Immaculata Chapel, adjacent to the Diocese of Lafayette Central Office, 1408 Carmel Drive in Lafayette.
