Please grant me the grace to hear and obey you today. While it only takes a few seconds, that simple prayer sets the tone for the entire day. Each new day is a gift from the Lord. Beginning with prayer keeps the distractions of daily life at bay, so that we do not lose sight of God s plan. Thursday God-filled Mothers In our present, fallen condition, the love we as mothers have for our children enables us to see more clearly into the window of our children s souls, beholding their Godgiven glory more easily than other people are able to do. Friday God-filled Mothers The truth is, most of us fail to truly recognize the beauty in those around us. In a perfect world, untainted by sin and selfishness, we should look at everyone with the loving eyes a godly mother has for her child. Saturday Great Love, Great Trust God does not love us because we are good; God loves us because God is good. Nothing humans can do will inhibit, direct, decrease, or increase God s eagerness to love. That is the one absolute of biblical faith, as Pope Francis says, and all else is relative to it. All other claims to some theoretical absolute truth, even by the Church, are all in the head, and that is not where we need truth. 3 Volume 63, Number 47, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and did not eat too much! This Sunday, we come to the end of the Liturgical Year as we venerate Jesus Christ as King of the Universe. Though we honor Jesus Christ on a regular basis, this is the time of year where He really comes into prominent focus: both on this day honoring His Kingship and with the upcoming approach of Christmas, when we celebrate Jesus as God becoming man. Fittingly, this week s Catechism highlight brings us to focusing on Christ as well. For the last two weeks we have seen Divine Revelation as shown through the Old Testament. Here, we see where the whole Old Testament pointed to: Jesus Christ. Jesus is the fullest revelation of God to man in this life, for Jesus is the Word made Flesh. Thus, if one really wants to know God, then He should look to His Son, for as Jesus once said, Whoever has seen me has seen the Father (John 14:9). III. Christ Jesus Mediator and Fullness of All Revelation (Part One) God has said everything in his Word #65 "In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son." 26 Christ, the Son of God made man, is the Father's one, perfect and unsurpassable Word. In him he has said everything; there will be no other word than this one. St. John of the Cross, among others, commented strikingly on Hebrews 1:1-2: In giving us his Son, his only Word (for he possesses no other), he spoke everything to us at once in this sole Word - and he has no more to say... because what he spoke before to the prophets in parts, he has now spoken all at once by giving us the All Who is His Son. P a r i s h A d v e n t E v e n t s It s that time of year again when Christmas is just around the corner! As Catholics though, this time begins the season of Advent: a penitential season when we eagerly await the coming of the Messiah. Being a very spiritual time of year, St. Anthony s will have a few things available to you for your own spiritual growth during this time: Confession: The sacrament of reconciliation will be made available each Wednesday night of Advent, starting on December 6. It will begin after the 5:30pm mass, and it will run from 6pm to about 7pm. Adult Catechesis: To help us learn more about our faith and deepen our time in this sacred season, Fr. DeBlanc will hold a special class during Advent. It will be a video series will be all about Advent itself. This is very important, as Advent is often neglected in our culture today. This class can help us better appreciate this time of waiting for Jesus coming. The classes will be held on Thursday nights throughout Advent, beginning November 30. It will run from 6pm to about 7:15pm in the parish hall. All are invited and encouraged to attend! Advent Reflection Book: As done in years past, there will be free copies of the Advent reflection book from Magnificat. They will be in the back of Church (the Vestibule) on the table where the free books are usually kept. These books are free to take and can be of great aid to your prayer life during this time of year! Penitential Rite: Fr. DeBlanc decided that to help the liturgy of the mass feel distinct during Advent, we will use a form of the Penitential Rite not often used (i.e. this is the part of the mass at the beginning when we pray Lord, have mercy ). For this part of the mass, we will use Option B, which is found at the bottom of page 4 in the 2018 Pew Missal. Happy Birthday!
